ORIGINAL POST:
(For both Tapas and WT creators.)
Hey guys! What do you think of the collaborative holiday specials creators do with miniature scenes from their various comics? As a reader, whenever I see collabs like these on a series I'm subbed to, I always end up seeing art I love and finding a few new series to follow! It also seems like a super fun way for creators to get to know each other and cross-promote! Would anyone be interested in participating in a "Happy New Year" illustration similar to this Christmas special within the next few weeks?
I just started posting my comic on Tapas and Webtoon. It's an LGBTQ+ romance/drama centering around the struggles of a student with schizophrenia as he navigates his career and relationships. I'll post it here so you can see an example of one series this collab would be posted on:
I don't have an astronomical following by any means, but I do have a few hundred subs on WT, so I figured it might help some people out who also just started posting? It also might help those of us under 100 subs on Tapas to reach that threshold!
So here are the specifics:
This project is open to both Tapas and Webtoon creators, regardless of when your last update was (i.e. comics currently on general hiatus are allowed) and number of subscribers. I will be uploading on both sites and encourage you to upload to whichever sites you prefer, be that one or both.
The theme of the illustration will be "When the Clock Strikes Twelve." It will be formatted as polaroid photos falling vertically, depicting "selfies" each of our characters took at midnight on New Years. For example, my comic is a romance, so I will probably be doing some gimmicky variant of a "midnight kiss" for a fun little tease. However, you may depict your characters doing anything (kid-friendly ) that you like, such as cheering, throwing confetti, toasting with champagne, etc. when the ball drops.
I will provide the background and overall formatting; you will only need to provide one or two square illustrations (your choice) of your main characters engaging in New Years festivities. (Exact dimensions and other specifications TBA if we can get enough people on board, but because your illustration(s) will be contained within the polaroid(s), you don't have to worry about incorporating them into the background environment.) I am debating on how to display title tags and am open to input if anyone has a preference. If you are interested in this project, please let me know in your comment if you would like your official title tag branded on the bottom of the polaroid, or if you think we should do something within the theme such as writing out series titles on the bottom of the picture with "marker" like you would a real polaroid. Please also let me know if you have any other feedback/suggestions!
We would be shooting for an upload date of January 1. (Keep in mind that this is less than a month away; I wanted to make this post much earlier but fell ill and have only recently recovered enough to be able to commit to the project, so I apologize for the tight deadline!)
I would need your finished illustrations by December 26 so that I can edit, format, export, and splice the final illustration to send everyone the uploadable files in Webtoon and Tapas format. This gives you just over 3 weeks to complete your illustration(s).
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, please comment below with a link to your current comic. Also feel free to tell us a little bit about yourself and your comic! In addition, if you are going to post, please check out other creators' series and engage a bit with them. (The whole point of this is to truly collaborate and make friends!)
If we can get AT LEAST 10 CREATORS between all of us to express interest, I will go ahead and finish drafting up the template for the background to give everyone a clearer picture before fully committing. I am not sure how many people will even be interested, especially considering the tight deadline, so for now I am not going to outright declare a hard limit on slots. However, I don't know if I'd be able to tackle many more than 15-20. Because of this, I feel like I should just put it out there that I cannot guarantee every single person who comments will get a slot. (If not, there are plenty of holidays and other collaborative opportunities coming up, including Valentine's Day in a few months! And on that note, if this won't fit your schedule but you are interested in collaborating in the future, feel free to comment, as well!)
Sorry for the long post, but this collaboration would be a little involved and I wanted to make sure to give you guys all the information you might need - at least all the information I have so far! I’ve been wanting to connect with other creators but am truthfully waaay too shy, so I thought what better way to force myself out of my shell than by doing something that may be able to benefit all of us! Happy Holidays and I hope to hear from you guys
