@Ra.zz @Minijulietty @artemficta @kinleypavone @Eiranyx @AmandaJ-art @sarahmcsquish @Gramkrackerhan @montrasimartina @Pommie Yaaaay hello, all you wonderful people!!! Sorry for dropping off the face of the Earth for like 48 hours lol - but we are back in business!
Looks like I jinxed myself with this line
Haa I was doing well for like a singular day then waaay overdid it and had to rest again for most of yesterday and today.
But, I will be working entirely from home now and already feel much better! (Working from home will also give me much more time to knock out this project and get everything finalized for us!)
I wanted to confirm that I will indeed be going ahead with the illustration. We are good to go and I am so excited to see everyone's work! I also wanted to provide a little more detail and ask for everyone's opinion on a few things. I am aiming to work on a 940px wide canvas at 600dpi (max Tapas dimensions so no resizing/compression will be necessary for the Tapas post and very minimal will be necessary for the Webtoon one). If everyone could send their illustrations to mannygart@gmail.com at 700px by 700px at 600dpi, I think that will be the perfect size to fit each illustration framed by the "polaroids." This will give them maximum screen real estate so that they'll be clearly shown, while still leaving some marginalia for the backdrop. Do you guys think this sounds okay? (I usually work on canvases that are much larger at print-ready dimensions, then scale them way down for uploading online, but it results in a lot of lost detail and I feel like it would be unnecessary for something like the overall illustration which would be too big to ever print. What do you guys usually do?)
However, you can always draw on a larger canvas and simply scale the final illustration down before sending if you intend on using it at a higher size or resolution elsewhere (e.g. posting to social media, posting your standalone illustration at the end of your post, prints, etc.)! Of course, please feel free to post your illustration of your characters anywhere at any time. The only uniformity I think that would be nice to have is if we all scheduled the actual collab to post at the same time on Tapas and WT; that way, if someone's readers see it on one series and want to check out the others, they'll be able to see that everything looks super coordinated. Do you guys think January 1 at 6am, 9am, or 12pm EST would work best? Or, do you have a different suggestion for posting time, such as New Years Eve rather NY Day? (I usually do 6-7am EST but I'm thinking some people might not wake up as early after the "shenanigans" of the night before
)
No strict color palette or anything. For the most part, I will be working in cooler, darker, and more saturated blues for the night sky background, offset by bright reds and yellows for fireworks - but feel free to use warmer lighting and have your characters take indoor selfies and such. If anything is too jarring, I may do a very opaque (like <5%) multiply layer over the photos, if you guys are cool with that. I'll let you know when I get all of your illustrations in and format them within the piece; I'll definitely send it to everyone in advance just to look over and make sure everything looks gucci lol. I will also show previews of parts of the illustration as I finish them to keep everyone up to date. I should have the intro done soon.
Also, if you want to do two "polaroids"/illustrations to be displayed next to each other, feel free to do so! For example, my first illustration will be character A kissing character B on the cheek, and the second will be character B returning the kiss, so it's kind of like a chronological sequence in quick succession. You could always do like someone chugging champagne and then proceeding to promptly fall over
Whew! Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to finalize all the necessary info for you guys. But please let me know if you have any questions for me!! Thank you for putting up with my sickly self
Let's do thisss!!!
