I'm looking for something simple for animatics too. I have an old version of Adobe After Effects that I plan to revisit this week, but I'm wondering if that's overkill.

I do have krita actually! But you can’t export the frames,

i got vegas in a humble bundle for like 10 bucks a couple years ago, BUT!
you can make gifs in alpaca douga17
i still make all my gifs there ;w; i love sai2 but im still hoping for an animation upd8 some day
(and you can very pain-in-the-assly mock onion skin in any program that has layers and opacity if you need that but u probably dont??)
you can likely still assemble it in movie maker (or imovie if ur on a mac lmao) and achieve ur usual animatic look, even if it might be a bit more of a run around to get it done

EDIT: I don't know how krita works but not being able to export frames makes having an animation feature kind of useless lmao
but maybe you could screen capture the program (with obs or something similar??) while ur in playback?? which again is just another run around but if it allows you to capture ur animation without exporting from the actual program then???? maybe?

a user of firealpaca and the alpacadouga export feature. as for putting it together with audio or any effects I just use windows movie maker

the only other free animation softwares i know of are pencil 2d and another open sor e animation program but i forget the name

as for editing apart from movie maker or imovie i know that filmora is pretty inexpensive and I've heard of some folks using goplay editor

ive heard adobe animate is good but i know nothing about it or how it works ;;;

hope you can find something ^^;

Thank you lol
My Mac doesn’t have iMovie and when I try to download it says Mac is under date or smth

And always use alpaca douga for making gifs it’s really good!

Well, if you are willing to invest a couple of bucks, I'd definitely advice you to get yourself clip studio paint (during a sale! That's important :wink: )

It is basically Photoshop, a manga program AND an animation tool6 in one neat package.

I'd recommend the EX version, on sale it's ~80$; I don't know about the features of the Pro (it's ~25-30$ on sale), the smaller version, what's included and what not.

But srsly, I have bought CSP EX 2 years ago and I don't regret it one second. It's worth every cent =)

You can export frames. It's under render animation (which I think might be called export animation now depending on your version) and it gives you the option to export frames, animation or both.
