sure. A small society is easier to regulate because everyone know each other.
Small civilisations can work trading goods and/or services to each other. Some good may become more or less valuable for different reasons:
For example, a coat is more valuable in winter, because is more useful.
Also, the harder it is to get something, the more expensive it is.
An increase in quality also makes something cost more.
In a small society, is easier to have a clear role, for example: the hunter, gatherer, spiritual guide, and as society progress, more roles develop: Like artisan, blacksmith, etc...
It was pretty common for parents to teach their profesion to children, or in case the kid was interested in learning something different, the kid may be tutored by another member of the society. If the kid wanted to be a blacksmith, but the parents didnt know how to do it, they would ask the town`s blacksmith to teach the child.
