Any traditional artists here? What media do you use?

I've just joined Tapas and thought I'd make a new topic to celebrate

My comic is done traditionally and I haven't seen many others in this digital age, so I figured I'd see if fellow traditional artists would mind sharing their creations and how they work?

I draw Vitreous in pencil and ink it in ballpoint pen. For large areas of black I create a border around the desired area in marker, then scan and fill it in in Pinta (I've already lost a dear marker while doing the prologue so it's an efficiency thing as well as looking nicer!) Then I clean up any blemishes/handwriting in the same program.

So let's see your comics guys and share your processes - I'd love to hear about them. And maybe we can share some tips to save time/make our art look even better.

Hi rd_inks. Welcome to Tapas!
for now i`m doing my comic the traditional way. Except for the texts, i add them with a program.
In case you are curious, here is my comic. Is a comedy about a rock saving the world from the forces of evil.... an actual inanimate rock.

The computer text works pretty well where it's used. Have you ever considered doing them by hand as well? And kudos for colouring it - that's something I don't have the time or patience for at the moment!

Here's mine if you'd like to read. If you like shonen manga/anime, then I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Yeah, coloring by hand is a challenge. I think it takes about half the time when i do a page. But i like the result of adding color.
I don`t do the texts by hand because i have a terrible calligraphy and because in the future i want to translate it to spanish too.

HEYY yeah! I do all of my concepts/thumbnails in notebooks, pre-page sketch on grid paper, page colours and lines in watercolours / inks, and then dialogue in Photoshop. I just adore painting pages so much, trying to make each panel it's own little piece! ^_^

Heey, welcome to Tapastic! Nice to see another traditional personal around.

Aside from some shines, and small stuff, my comic is traditionally drawn. I start out with thumbnailing the page on whatever I can get my hands on, then sketch and ink in blue pen on bristol board. Color everything with a mix of copic markers, and color pencils. (The copics are for background areas, and large spaces) Then reink everything with black, blue, and brown pens. I fill in the gutters with black sharpie markers, scan, clean up some stuff in photoshop, and I'm finished.

I draw Slugworld with a regular ol' mechanical pencil and ink with a 0.5 and 0.2 mm Copic Multiliner. Sometimes I fill in medium-sized black areas with a Shapie, but use Photoshop for the really big ones.

I do FFFAAA much the same, but do coloring, shading, and lettering in Photoshop because really there's no reason not to.

I usually draw the pages of Azura's Heart on paper and edit everything on Photoshop. I have preference for faster processes, so I draw on paper, because it's fast, and tone on PS for the same reason. I have just a few hours to work on the comic, so I take 3 hours each page.

Wow, thanks for all your replies and suggestions guys - all your artwork looks incredible! Once I'm caught up with the dreaded Inktober and catch up with a few things I'm gonna have to check these all out I'll leave a reminder for myself to do so

My ink work is traditional but the tones etc are done in clip studio.

I'm working with pencils (sketches), ink (lineart), and watercolors. Classy european comic style;) Any other watercolor fanatics?

I'm new too! My comic Trash Cat is drawn really simplistically - ballpoint pen and watercolor paints. It winds up looking kind of shoddy but that's on purpose. It fits the tone of the comic better than clean digital art would.

I wouldn't say shoddy - more like quaint and cosy. It suits the character's solitary exploits - good choice!

(Im still in the process of checking out all of these - I'll get there eventually!)

Awesome - I've tried to follow the link but it's not working at present. Will search it at some point - to the others in this thread, I'm slowly getting round to checking your work out. It's looking great so far though!
