Anyone else notice they accidentally change parts of character designs over time?

This is kinda why I draw my characters until I get used to drawing them so that they look relatively consistent Things just change by accident gradually and I only notice it after a couple months.

Any of you guys have this happen to you? (share them below!)

For example, when I first designed Anopheles, he had pretty much a buzz cut, a very differently shaped mask and mandibles

He also had suspenders but I hated them and removed them intentionally so there's that

(ALSO THIS IS MY OLD ART I PROMISE MY WORK LOOKS BETTER NOW)

And then when I redrew him again, I ended up adding slight cheekbones- SLIGHT. His hair length changed slightly and his mask slightly ( I barely noticed I did this at the time)

AND THEN I GAVE HIM HELLA CHEEKBONES (and also eyebags because my man is middle aged) His hair became longer gradually and his mandibles changed in size (idk why don't ask me)

And all these small changes still kinda kept his original design intact while being very different but like some of it was just uninitentional!

(I was gonna go more into how I changed his face but like his "face reveal" is a special moment in the comic ) SO NO I WON'T

I remember my Main character Mukhtar use to have a normal pointy nose, but then i change it to round.

Definitely, though in my case it's 'me accidentaly simplifying the designs'
Here's chapter 1 vs chapter 16:

that decoration on her dress? gone. decoration at the edge of her coat? never hear of it.

Also, all of my characters look older now, and their faces have more shapes. But that's more of my art style change than design change ( :

Adrian's earrings got WAY bigger with time at first they were like this:

...But then they ended up like THIS XD

It wasn't intentional, but I think that, on an unconscious level, there was a bit of "what even IS the point of spending so much time drawing his earrings if nobody's gonna see them anyway?" involved in the change :'D

Also, his hair was originally supposed to be tucked behind the left ear only. But since I apparently can't tell left from right and I was constantly finding myself doing crap like this:

...I decided to keep his hair tucked behind both ears

Yes! I just noticed this in my most recent episode.

I have these two panels where the heads were drawn many months apart. The right is the most recent.

I noticed I tend to make hair bigger over time (and not just on this character). And now that I try to draw in single strokes, the details have have gotten smoothed out.

More specific to this OC is that his goggles keep getting thinner while his neck has gotten thicker. He's also gotten a lot sharper from his initial sketches that I can't find at the moment. I know his design is sharper than my other MC so I think I overcorrect when I don't check my ref sheet.

Other MC also got rounder for the same reason.

As you draw a character over and over you find solutions and better ways to do it. That's why animation has turn-a-rounds to stay on model. I personally like seeing artist evolve their style. Most people doing a comics or animation will become a better artist through seer volume of doing it over and over compared to the doodler that draws their character 1 time a week or month. My thinking is as long as you are on model in an episode, its all good. Most of the examples above look enough the same as the old designs to know who they are.

The character who is suppose to be skinny sort of got a little less skinny over time.

Miss also became less skinny and her nose got bigger.

It seems not much have changed except for my art style changing slightly over time and im drawing my characters a little bit better (and simpler), there is 2 slight changes and the first being the hair thingies on Azzy here going from shorter and sharper

to longer and softer... and i keep forgetting about his earings way to often

And Lydias bracelet, i realised i didnt like the design i made early on and changed it to be easier and faster to draw

Hm generally I tend to, ahem, prettify my characters a little. The one that's gone through the most changes is probably my pirate captain.

The first concept art I ever did when I didn't really know where I was going with him is completely outdated now.

I just knew I wanted him to have a scar but then went with a burn scar that's relevant to the plot.

Now he's a little thinner (granted, that's because he goes through some shit) and looking a little younger (not like ... 19 but the wrinkles on his forehead are less prominent), he has tattoos and his hair is more luscious.

I haven't changed his colour palette a lot though, I just changed which pieces of clothing have which colour, and I made a few tweaks to his outfit.

Then there's Sean.

He's a hoe. That part hasn't changed. But i progressively made his hair longer and longer.

So I just decided to give him long hair.

I think his features also changed a little, he has more of a button nose now and softer features overall.

My characters used to not really be fluffy, but I added more fluff. Then the fluff just took over.

The ears also have changed. The length used to be a lot shorter than now. My most recent comic's protagonist has longer ears, so probably accidentaly added it to this comic.

Oh so many and too many times I really had ideas of cool outfits in my mind when I'm drawing my characters I will just unknowingly change the outfit
