Since I was doing an investigative thing, they answered all my questions about the manga-anime industry and as I stated before, I did a reseach before picking one of them.I conducted the interview and received the class in japanese with the teachers and the director (only in english with the director assistant late that day).
1) are they karens? In my opinion, after the interview and my own experience with foreigners about Japan, half of them were specially the ones coming from english spoken countries. Not from other countries. The teachers never said something despective about their foreing students.Instead, they were sincerely sad.
2)Or are the programs specifically for foreigners who can speak japanese? Are the ads in japanese? Yes, the ads are all in japanese and the requeriments are pretty clear and the course information super detailed and most of people tend to skip the reading and go directly to the application format. These anime-manga schools has opened these courses for foreigners because even if they are not so many, its enough to open a short course (they take in consideration the visa situation, the costs and the language barrier) but taking also in consideration these courses were not given so often theres no need for the teachers speak English so they openly put their requeriments in their ads (in japanese ) they require the student has at least N-2 Japanese level (it varies with each school but its always medium to high japanese level). So the ones who have complained to them yes are idiots. (in my irl job I also manage stuff that requires ppl at least have at least the basics of 2 languages and every year I receive this kind of complaints or ppl dissapointed comments so I can recognize that pattern).
3) Idk if it would be your case, since to join one of these courses requires you pass for a short screening process (as a foreigner) and be put on a waiting list before filling the course quota (10-20 students) per class since each course cant begging until the quota is filled (at least with Yoani). If you check Yoani website you will find the ad, the requeriments file and the info format, then you will have a confirmation message and some questions they will make to you in japanese. So, yes, even tho they have taken all the measurements (due past karens) to please the foreign students to make clear their policies, still there are people complaining.
Yoani also ask you to send them some of your drawings to check your drawing level before accepting you because they know a person with zero drawing knowledge or technique this course is useless.
You know, there are people is so blind about themselves and their capricious wishes they even lie to others and to themselves looking down on the professionals. Theres still people lying about their japanese level, still people tracing or sending stolen art to get approved its surprising). In my job I also has to deal with ppl like that so I side with these teachers. And for the way they told me about their experience with sad eyes. They know some basic english but not enough to give a class. The teachers taht give a class to japanese students are the same who give these courses to foreign people. Theres no way you can complain that you were put with a less experienced teacher. Most of the teachers has long careers and are PRO.
IMO If a student pass for all that screening, it was supposed they did read all their policies, still decided to take the course and pay taht huge ammount of money to later complain and blame them, they are fucking idiots.
In my personal experience with taht 1 day class back in 2016 (me with a medium level japanese and some basics drawing techinques) these 7 hours were the best. I did learn more of what I have writen here. I, a self tahugth artist and weeb tot I know almost everything about manga-anime but I was wrong. There I learn more tips and techniques to make my work better and faster both in analog and digital. Im not an animator but when received the animation little class, I even cried looking at the teacher creating life from a 2d character the loved when he was a full time animator in a certain japanese studio. They teach you with love and share all what they know. If someone complains about they are shit. (im getting emotional remembering them and how passioante and ready to share were about their art). I did learn about the anime-manga industry and how bad paid they are (you might see these courses expensive but everything in Japan is expensive), how the industry in Japan and within Asia work and how surprised they are the other countries likes japanese anime and wants more people learn how it really works because most of foreigners has idealised it too much and get dissapointed in their lives for not reaching their dreams to be a mangaka or animator in Japan.
Meanwhile, the other asian countries has a better idea and similar working/studying mindset and they succed in Japan or in their own countries.
I was mixed with the japanese students class and they were so welcoming and happy to show me their drawings ;o; some were still on the basics but were so happy to be there only drawing with full of dreams (yes I interview 1 of the students, a highschololer girl dreaming to be a fantasy mangaka. she showed me her ocs and all ). I was pretty welcomed there back then. For me, it seemed the only place these people were free there (from all that difficult japanese society urgh Im a weabo but not blind weabo I know all the bad sides about japanese culture and I call on them if required but defend them when needed as well).
Anyways, if people want to take any of these courses they must understand and accept their responsabilities of what they signed for. Its better to ask all the questions and tell the true about yourself and what you expect before taking any course with them. I know they will take your case in consideration but they will be very honest as well. They might reject your application.
If you want to learn more about them, I recommend you to visit their websites and check it yourlself.

Well thats all about the short courses, lets talk about long courses
**
I know they also offer longer courses for foreign students that you would make more of this. I love Yoani because they have a class-practice program for both japanese and foreigner students. They have these join to an x-event with studios or other anime-manga media for the students participate and gain experience and these works actually are used officially and the students credited. It meas, for longer course students, they have the chance to work (in studios, get recommendations to be a mangaka assistant, acting, etc) to gain experience before graduating. and of course for to do all that you fucking need Japanese obviously! , if you really want to learn something without any effort then you dont really want it, so learn japanese fgs ( flips a table)
Ill leave you the link for longer courses https://www.yoani.co.jp/global/ (just the main info has an English version) Its up to you in the end nobody forces you to take a course but if you take one in the right way you will not regret it.
Idk if I forgot to say anything or if my English made any sense.
