Are my chapters too long!

Are my chapters too long? Is that why my readers take a massive nose dive? I started posting my novel on Goodnovel and they specifically tell you to only put 600- 1000 words. Most of my chapters have 2000 words.

Should I split up my chapters to 600 - 1000 words to keep readers more engaged?

Idk, I always made chapters around 3000 words, but bc since I was young I've taken reference on the Warrior Cats books that have around that quantity? but I made that weird math when I was like 11, so I just stuck to that. I don't like short chapters and I enjoy long ones, but you do you, if people like the story they'll read it, so you should do what you feel comfortable with. I don't think i could cover all that happens in one chapter in 600 - 1000 words, 3000 is the perfect amount to me, but yeah I always have to separate my chapters in two to post on Tapas

My chapters are all generally 2000 words minimum. When I post them, I just find a good halfway point and only post around 1,000-1,500 words max and post 2-3 times a week. I have decent retention (primarily on RoyalRoad but also here. I've seen a lot of organic growth despite doing no promotions as of yet). And personally, I prefer chapters around that size.

Do you have a regular upload schedule? When it comes to retention, a lot of readers stay because of consistency and quality rather than the chapter size.

Hi, Leonitis. Since coming to Tapas, I have struggled with my chapters being too long. I came to a point where I simply divided the chapters in parts: John 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. I was looking for a less rigorous approach to publishing my chapters.

In my latest novel, Tin Can Wizard, I decided to divide each chapter into eight pages. Each page has the chapter and page number. Each page has it's own title. Currently, I am pblishing one page per day. I've been getting reads, but the numbers are still small.

It's been told to me that most readers on Tapas seem to favor chapters that average at around 1500 words. I'd like to think of my potential readers as students who are on their way to school/classes, people who work 9-5 jobs, and those who don't always have the time to sit down and read.

Hello! So my chapters tend to be 1100 words at minimum, but I tend to post more often as of right now. However, I do see chapters which are a bit longer than that on here.

Please note that there are other things that should go into a chapter as well. Would splitting up the chapters leave them feeling like their own chapters still?
