Hi I'm 11 and I was wondering if there are any age restrictions on tapastic or webtoons because I really want to publish comics. Thanks!

As far as I know, there are none on Tapastic. You just can't get paid via ad revenue until you're 18. I don't know about Webtoons, but I always hear that the audience for the comics are pretty young, so maybe there aren't any on Webtoons either.

i think the ad revenue you can actually turn on anytime - im 16, and dont remember lying about that but hey - it mightve been the patreon-esque service ive already forgotten the name of that had the age restriction.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you do need to be 18. It has to be a rule for the sake of child labor laws in the US, I believe, and because Tapas is based in the US, they have to enforce that rule.

Well, really, by law children are not supposed to own social media accounts but they still do. ( ^ω^ )

Owning a social media account doesn't require proper filings for taxes from both parties. Also, owning social media accounts as a child is in no way a "law", last time I checked, it's just a general terms of service rule that places like Facebook use to prevent getting sued.

Having ad revenue turned on and making that money before you're 18 can result in issues for Tapas themselves, as well as yourself. If you're fine with dealing with the IRS though, then by all means

Really? I thought that there weren't any, but the only contact I have to anything on Webtoons is whoever comments on my comic, and sometimes they sound REALLY young, because sometimes, they don't understand simple things like what happened on a super simple page.

Webtoons was originally a Korean (?l company so that might be why their rules are different.

Either way, the 13+ age rating on most websites are there because they're public domain and the company hosting the website doesn't want to get yelled at/sued by the parents if their kid should see something they deem inappropriate (which falls under a pretty large umbrella before you approach 18+ category).

18+ is the only one that's very strictly legally bound (as far as i know) due to the risk of minors being exposed to pornography, or potentially drawn into child pornography legal problems that are a lot worse than "my 12 year old saw a man with a knife!!"

I'm not a lawyer though, and I'm digressing from the original topic quite a bit.

TL ; DR Tapastic's age rating for accounts and age rating for ad revenue are two separate cans of worms. If you have to follow one, follow the ad rev one.

Do any of you know websites that do a low minors to post comics?

The vast majority of websites won't allow under 13s to sign up because of a piece of US law called the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which basically makes it such a pain to collect and store data on under 13s (such as requiring them to verify parental consent) that most simply forbid them from registering. Of course, under 13s sign up and lie about their age all the time, but you're not going to find a webcomic host that actually permits you to register at 11.

hey, sorry for suddenly reviving this topic! but i figured many teens would be looking at this forum, so i just wanted to inform that for whatever reason there is, webtoon has changed their age limit from 14 to 13! i just checked, and it said so. though for me, i guess i'll still be waiting until i turn fourteen while i improve more of my drawing and practice making webtoon pages.
