A lot of the time, people will binge read a series from scratch, so I think in those cases, most people don't like to interrupt the flow of their reading session to click that like button (or they don't think about it because they are so absorbed). Many people will also only give out likes to pages that felt like the author really went above and beyond to crank out a particularly amazing page. So it all depends if you see that like feature as a "good" or "great" option.
But really, as a creator, I've been using that like option a lot in the last month and a half that I've been here. It really is an incredibly valuable asset to motivate creators to keep going. Just getting views, while good, don't show any particular feeling about them. Did someone stumble in by accident? Did they only read one panel? Did they dislike it? Did they think it was just okay? Did they actually like it but just didn't want to like or comment? Likes on the other hand, show at least a small form of validation that you're doing something right, and yes, it does take only a second and very minimal effort to hit. Plus, likes boost your chances of making it onto Popular or Trending, which is really valuable to give smaller comics a rare chance at expanding their audience, even if it is just by a reader or two.
Comments though, are incredibly important, as I think most creators live for those comments. I just posted a page, and it's really hard to avoid clicking that refresh button to see if I've gotten a comment (or a like). It's hard to ignore. I know it shouldn't bother me whether I do get them or not, as it should be satisfying in it's own right just to post my work. I guess when you've spent a whole week on your page and the time finally comes to post it at that one time during the week, you want to see if people have actually enjoyed it. We all spend vast amounts of time working on our pages to entertain our readers, and it's hard to ignore the need for validation that you're actually succeeding.
So while we can't (and shouldn't) beg for likes and comments, I do get how it feels for everyone here to see those little red notifications at the top of our screens. Just keep in mind that most of the readers here on this site are just here to read (I don't find that they comment too often. Maybe they're just really casual about it). As for creators, I believe that many of them simply don't have the time to read everything, like everything and comment. As a creator myself, I really try to read , like and comment as much as I can, but there's just so much content on tapastic, that it's hard to get to it all. For me, what I love to do most is to check out newer series and to like and comment to others, as I know how valuable it is to get that support and motivation to push forward to create something amazing. But still, with me constantly checking out and subscribing to new series, I'm also trying to keep up with the series I'm interested in, while also checking out the work of people who sub to me (I like to give everyone a chance at least). And I'm doing all of this while trying to work on my comic page throughout the week in the small gaps of time I have between work, parenting and sleep. With all of this going on, I really do understand how hard it is to find time to support everyone while trying to support myself. I'm not sure where I'm really going with all of this, but all we can really do is to be aware how important our actions are to others, and to do the best we can for ourselves and everyone that we can find the time to help out with.
