Oh, cool, look a these references! A lot of technical approaches to the craft (and the Scott McCloud book was mandatory for the comics/sequences class, yes, good book!!). BUT YO, when I was in foundations drawing courses for my initial drawing/illustration degree, we were assigned to read Art & Fear: Observations On the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking.
It is a brilliant source of inspiration for the metaphysical side of creating art -- whether it be as a writer, as a painter, as a sculptor, as an illustrator. I cannot recommend it enough, it's an eye-opener and a refresher for the moments when you're feeling down about your career (or potential career)!
And another comic--oriented book I recommend comes from another comics course I took, Will Eisner's Theory of Comics & Sequential Art! A bit dated but it has all the basics laid out in a very coherent manner with awesome samples of a variety of comics (gag-a-day, advert, long-form, etc. etc.)!
