...and here I thought it was a well known and often recognized fact in the psychological community that the most hateful of homophobic people are often very likely to be gay people in denial.
It is a psychological response where a deeply grounded wish meets with the "morals" and requirements taught by their social environment, and results in extreme rejection and disgust. Usually extreme disgust of anything implies a very personal connection to that thing, and most of the time people show more hate for something the closer it lies to themselves.
You can't hate anything more than something you yourself have within you, can't get rid of and are constantly told is disgusting and wrong.
Of course not all homophobes are gay. But some of them are bound to be.
