Hello!
Nan here.
Sup, people. I've come back again lol, scavenging for a writer.
This time I'll keep my description short and crisp, to the point.
Collaboration project
Target sites: Webtoon, Tapas
I'm a full time student and part time freelance artist, and I'm hoping to start a new webcomic with a writer/a few writers, depending on the situation. This is going to be free/unpaid work, I'm basically here to hone and flex (lmao) my skills for a while. I do believe I have a lot to learn - especially about comics/webtoons, so it'd be of great help if you could please guide me through that. In exchange for your story and webtoon-wisdom, I'll be your artist!
As for me, I'm literally just doing this for fun and experience and would not consider it as a source of income. I have my part time freelancing thing for that, so no worries! I want this to be a mutual thing (hence the name "collaboration") as I'm rather bad at coming up with stories and plots while you may not be comfortable with drawing. So if we work on the areas WE are good at, I'm sure we can make something great~
I do realize that many writers (most, actually) are unsure about putting money on a comic they're not even sure will garner the attention they want. Every successful webtoon started out like that, so you never know! I feel the same, and hence I would not take any money from you, and would really like our to-be-webtoon to be free and accessible to all readers. The three things I really want in terms of this project - knowledge, experience and recognition.
I'm going to graduate high school in a month after my finals get over (extremely important for me) and will probably pursue Architecture given that I get the results to get me into a proper college. I prioritize my academic work over everything and may need short breaks sometimes (say, for exams) so please bear that in mind, we may have to keep the series on hold or I can draw some extra chapters beforehand, whichever works. Right now, my final exams will just be starting so you guys can leave your replies below, please reply at least once to this post before messaging.
Again, PLEASE REPLY ONCE TO THIS POST before messaging otherwise I'll lose track.
The deadline for you to respond is 12th of April (quite late, I know) and I want to give you all enough time and chance to sort things out before I settle with someone to work with/for.
We can start around the mid of April or even May. I think we should plan out the webtoon in April, get ahead with some character sheets and intro/cover/etc. and start publishing from May. Of course, these are just my opinions, if you have a different idea I'm completely open to it.
I'll be joining college from August (most probably) but will be able to continue the collaboration for as long as it may take.
Genres I won't be able to do: Horror, gore, action, etc. of this type.
Other than that I'm pretty open to all genres and would prefer something like Makoto Shinkai and Hayao Miyazaki movies (with more depth of course). Like True Beauty webtoon? It's manwha but I kind of liked the dramatic essence of it
One chapter every two weeks btw, that should do. (biweekly)
Also, forgot to mention this - Since I won't be taking any sort of payment from you, I would like to publish the comic using my account if you have no problems with that. I see that usually it's the writers who publish and not the artists, but I feel artists have to do a LOT of work as compared to writers (I respect your work nonetheless, but you know this is true) especially when there's only one artist involved. Of course I'll always mention our names and social medias and everything at the end of every episode, you will have full credits for your story.
One thing I would request is for the setting to be Japanese and the characters to have Japanese names as I love Japan and of course, anime! Also, cats are very much welcome
I would like all human characters, no furry, and no speaking sparrows. I want a realistic kind of story, dramatic but not too cliche, with fun elements and humour but not overly comedic, with a teenage-ish vibe but with mature decisions. The setting could be (preferably) "normal", I'm okay with present-day and historic but no sci-fi please!
My style is strictly anime and if that's what you prefer, even better! The comic will be coloured and cell-shaded, somewhat like anime scenes. Sharp shadows and no gradients (like my Kinami Agawa character sheet art style).
If we can get another artist (or even you can) to do the lettering and text bubbles, I'd be VERY happy. But it's also okay without, I can learn
End note: If you don't turn out to be my writer, PLEASE DO NOT FEEL BAD! It doesn't mean you're not good enough or ANYTHING LIKE THAT. Maybe we can work together some other time or maybe another amazing artist deserves you more
Keep thriving, keep writing, folks!
