I have quite a few ideas, but I think your art would go well with a story vision I have called "How I Got My Dragonfangs." It's about a teenage boy who has never known his father, being raised by a single mother. But then after a dangerous encounter with one of his mom's drunk ex-boyfriends, he suddenly unlocks a hidden magic within himself and grows fangs while in a transformed state. This leads him to the truth of his heritage -- his father belonged to a large family of dragons in human form. He learns that many centuries ago, dragons began hiding themselves within human populations to escape the Paladins of Crastormede Rock, who had hunted them to near extinction.
As part of the Great Shift, baby dragonlings were now born in human form, only gaining access to their powers once they hit puberty. Outwardly, they aged the same as normal people, but stayed in good health their entire lives, which often lasted at least a century. In ancient times, dragons would regularly live to be several hundred years old, but multiple generations in human form significantly accelerated their aging.
So our protagonist discovers this entire secret world he never knew existed, and that his father had a forbidden affair with his mother. You see, dragons forming romantic relationships with humans is frowned upon, especially when that union results in a half-breed. So in the beginning, the story centers around this and our protagonist learning about his lineage and the initial prejudice he receives from his half-siblings and cousins for being a hybrid. They have no choice but to allow him into their hidden world because he needs to learn to properly control his magic so he doesn't hurt someone, and he gradually forms bonds with his larger family.
This origin arc of sorts can lead into a larger academy arc where the protagonist joins other young dragons as apprentices, and this opens into the events surrounding a growing conflict between two major bloodlines. As tensions continue to escalate, the dragons make enough of a commotion to alert the Paladins to their presence, and it all goes to hell from there, lol.
