As a reader, shorter or longer episodes?

I want to know what everyone prefers as a reader.
Do you prefer reading single page uploads or longer uploads? I personally find it difficult to remain invested in a story if I'm getting a single page a week or even every couple of days. I would much rather wait a few weeks to get a complete scene or chapter.

I agree. Personally, I prefer a couple of pages at a time. It doesn't have to be the entire chapter, just 3-4 pages is enough for me.

I do not think if asking for "readers" opinion is right here because this forum is mostly comprised of creators and there are less or very little "readers" (as in people who do not create series themselves) here. If you want "readers" opinion in specific, you better ask your subscribers.

As I read shit too, I have no preference. I think it also depends on the story too; for example gag comics is much better by a quick update schedule and one page per updates, but not with longer fictions.

Time ago I would have said longer episodes, but I've realized that single page updates make me spend more time on every page and appreciate the small details better.

I'm fine with either option.

I like uploads with more panels. However I am fine with those who divide their weekly chapters by two parts and upload more often. It's fine to even divide the chapters by 3...I think 4 would be a lot.

When people upload single page chapters I tend to get dizzy from scrolling so much, this is mainly when I marathon a series. I am also less likely to comment on each page released. I think I wouldn't mind if I was getting a single page each time if I was already updated, that's probably when I'll start commenting every page, hah xD. Although, one advantage to single page uploads is that people will come across your story more.

But definitely upload whichever way your time allows you to perform the best :).

That is the real point of single page uploads and why I changed my upload routine. At first I usually uploaded 5 pages on one shot. One time a week. But now I'm uploading one page a day...(let's see for how long lol). I guess you will have more engagement, views, likes, all the good stuff with single page uploads.

As a reader I prefer longer updates. It's easier for me to keep track of a story when I'm reading it in bigger chunks than page-by-page.
However, as an author I feel like page-by-page updates are the best for keeping people engaged and getting growth on your comic. Updates are what you usually get lots of views, likes, and comments, and with all of those they push your comic up into trending, where it becomes much easier to get new subscribers.
In an ideal world I could do frequent multi-page updates, like a mangaka, but I lack the time to do so. So that makes the choice be between doing infrequent long updates and frequent short updates, and with the current system of Tapas, doing shorter updates is best for my comic's growth so I do that.

I'd say shorter on the book side--the 15,000 character limit comes out to around 2,500 words which is a very good limit for the kind of quick fire stuff I like.

But for webtoon type stories? When we say short, what do we mean? Sometimes I'll read stories on here where the chapters literally take me just twenty seconds to get through. IDK if that is normal but that's definitely too short for me.

As a reader I prefer shorter episodes even if there is a cliffhanger - I have a full time job and normally like to read before going to work or during lunch time. if the chapters are too long, sometimes I don't have the time to read the whole chapter and sometimes forget where I stopped. And this is why I decided to write shorter episodes in my novel...

I prefer reading complete pages, but it depends on how busy I am. I read shorter episodes if I'm busy at work and if I'm working on my comic. If I'm on my day off and taking a break from drawing for one to a few days, I read longer episodes.

I actually don't have a preference; I follow comics with single-page updates and comics with multi-page updates and I don't find one system any more satisfying than the other. As long as the artwork is good and the story holds up. =/ It's nice to be able to get more, but I don't mind less.

I will say though that really big multi-page updates on a regular basis make me more concerned than awed...as an artist I have to think "is this person overextending themselves...? Are they okay??" Like, do 15 pages a week if you want to, but take care of yourself, please...

Middle of the road really, closer to short. I don't mind single page episodes but I get lost quickly, I really don't like very long episodes because I'm not always reading with time avaliable and some people just make huge episodes where you're reading the entire chapter then and there, no breathing room. Ideally, 2-3 pages per update is pretty comfy, but if they're keeping it to one to stay healthy, then I'm fine with that too.

It really depends on the story. There are ones that work really well as a single page and ones that don't. I have favourites that are both way.
But I believe that one should do what he /she feels comfortable doing.

I follow all different types of comics, but I prefer more mid-sized episodes, I guess. Sometimes the 1-page updates really do feel too short, especially if it's only 1-2 panels and if it has no dialogue. I found for me personally that 1 page per week was also just way too slow for the story to progress. Now I do 2 pages per week (in one update), sometimes 3 if I can manage it. This means the story can move twice as fast!

I'm also not a huge fan of the really long episodes though. Sure you get a lot of stuff happening, but you also get a lot of scrolling and time to read when I usually don't have a lot of time.
