You can do whatever you want, who cares if internet randos get upset that you're not an open book. Also yeah, safety is important, people on the internet can be unhinged as hell, especially in this day and age.
For me it's yes and no. It's become a thing where if you make fiction tackling darker subjects, especially with minority characters, people really push that you need to be in that minority and/or have experience with the topics your story has to "prove that you're qualified" to make said story. I'm open about being queer (While not always disclosing exactly what I am.), and having mental health issues, along with giving a vague list personal rl things my comic is loosely based on. This is to have some kind of defense if an asshole gets offended, and tries to do some call-out bs. Also back when I was seeing a Psychologist she said it's good to be open about your mental health struggles, because it would encouraged others to be open and help with making it less stigmatized.
I'll generally be open about things that won't bring someone to my home, that being said I don't share everything. My real name is a no-no, I don't like sharing pictures of myself, no exact age or birthday, no exact address. (Although I have been open a couple times about the state I live in.) Pretty much major doxxing stuff.
