more like 2013-2016 era in my memory.
the “A” has also been added and taken off periodically to mean either asexual or ally since the 90s.
similarly, a “Q” has been added and taken off periodically to mean questioning since the early 00s.
LGBT has always been evolving.
These days I believe the most common spelling is LGBTQQIAA (q’s for queer and questioning, extra a for a romantic)
sometimes an O is attached for ‘other’.
around the mid-late 2010s people have also been offering up alternatives such as MOGAI (Marginalized Orientations, Gender And Intersex) GSD or DGS (Diverse Genders and Sexualities) and even just Queer (as an umbrella term).
most typically, myself included as someone who is aroace, people prefer “LGBT+“, or “LGBTQ” (with ‘queer’ suggesting the other identities, though that’s not a personal favorite as some people are lgbt+ but don’t self identify as queer).
In fact, it’s in such popular widespread use it’s what you’ll see in most external resources relating to the lgbt+
simple, inclusive, and avoids the ever ending growing fate on the acronym.
