oh no these are more like universities, so the first thing they look for is:
1) a good mental library, you need to have a bunch of places or characters already in mind and have problems getting them out
2) at least a cursory understanding of art and drawing like you saw there the guys where already in a good level but not a professional level, they where already in some art courses and other schools, though in an interview a student said he hadn't been drawing for 4 years and then he just drew one piece and the ones he had 4 years ago and got in
also most are already adults like 25-30 years not cause they don't want younger students but cause the curriculum is so hellish, literally people dropped out cause they couldn't take the pressure, which is understandable since what studios look for is speed and quality for concept art, like you need to be able to make 3-6 high quality backgrounds with 3 different character designs in less than 1 day 0-o (these guys are monsters)
I don't think they would even try to get in since the tuition is a bit on the rich side (40000 SD= 29 458.24 $) and if they get in the pressure will either make them draw like a pro or they drop out cause of the pressure
you need to be sure that this is what you want and that you can handle it
you should I think a lot of people who say that it's better to be self taught is cause they go to art school when what they wanna do is be in design/concept school, one teaches you how to let your inner feeling come out and how comic, anime and realism are restrictive or not art >:C I hate this kind of thinking, while the other one tells you how the hell you can draw anything you want to create in real life and make it appealing even if it's anime style or cartoon style.
