This will sound like self-promo, but incidentally I am also deciding on a font and actually just made an episode yesterday where I tried out a bunch of fonts:
In order from panels 1-6, they are:
-
Comic Neue - designed to be a lighter, cleaner version of Comic Sans. I like it's clean look and readability but it might seem a little 'airy' or sterile.
-
Steel City Comic - A bit lighter than most of the others, but the letters are a bit more deformed.
-
Qarmic Sans - Currently my favorite I think, although the line spacing in the panel seems rather small. I've since increased the line spacing a bit and it seems easier on the eyes.
-
Komika Hand - All caps, which I think hurts readability a bit. I like case-sensitive letters because I think the resulting variation in word shapes (like due to the pattern of tall (tlkhi), short (nmroaes), and tailed (pqyg) letters) play a part in making words more easily identifiable.
-
Komika Slim - very similar to Komika Hand, also all caps
-
Inika - I like the cleanness and readability of this one but the serifs make it not seem appropriate for a gag-a-day comic, unlike the more "handwritten" look of the others.
I got all these from the "free for commercial use" section of 1001fonts.com.
