Best way to Enage readers

No, this isn't a post about gaining more readers or anything. I just want to see what you guys think is the best way to start a conversation with your current ones. I've been posting on the wall and leaving short comments to every update but I think I've only gotten 1 or 2 actually comments.

I'm sure there's more to it then just figuratively shouting out into the void, so I was curious to see if anyone wanted to share. How do you engage with your subscribers?

Well I don’t really have much experience… but I noticed recently that I was more compelled to comment on other comics when the creator left a question in the description. So in my last update I left a simple question in my description and I noticed that I got more comments.

I've tried that. I'm starting to wonder if I just gotta keep it short and sweet.

Short questions are usually good. I also found that I like to comment on people's art if they mention like a panel or something they were particularly proud of.

exactly. For example the question I used was simply "are you the short friend, or the tall friend??". It doesn't have to be very elaborate. You can even just ask your readers something like how their day was or how they would react if they were in your characters shoes etc. etc.

I agree with everyone else here who mentioned the short questions thing in the author section of your page. I sort of do this subconsciously and as a result, I tend to get a decent amount of feedback. Another thing I do is reply to everyone who leaves a comment as well, i've often times had some interesting conversations in the comments section. :3

Yes! I'm less inclined to comment if I don't see any creator replies.

If someone leaves a comment good or bad on your stuff, the best thing to do (with good comments that is) is respond in kind. Bad comments you usually delete and forget about.

For me I make sure I ask questions about the page, whether it's about what they think will happen, what they want to happen, or how do they like the colors, etc. Then I make sure to reply to all the comments I get. Some of my readers will go back and forth commenting. And once an author doesn't reply to comments, I wont comment any further... i'll still read their stuff though. I may not have hundreds of subs, but I may be lucky having noisy ones and I make sure they are not ignored.XD

Yeah, questions are good! Also, I use the tagging system to tell jokes, and people seem to respon well to those.

Replying to comments is also important - I try to do that as often as I can. Sometimes, there's not much I can say except "thanks" and then I might skip answering, but if a commenter has asked a question or something, I do take the time to reply.

Another thing that I feel works is that I post a thank-you image on the walls of new subscribers - it's partly because, well, I'm thankful they subscribed, but it's also partly a signal to them that it is 100% okay to talk to me, as some people are a bit hesitant.

I reply but the hard bit for me is not giving the game away...

always thankful of people who take the time to do something as easy a click a like button and leave a comment. and I would rather have lots of one word comments left than see a page has had a large number of readers yet no likes or just three or four. ( well like my mum use to say when she gave me yukie medicine, like it or not you're getting it anyway!)

I don't really put a description after my pages, but I do respond when people comment and if I don't have a comment response, I passive respond by liking their comment.

My readers tend to respond more to my characters than to me as a person haha. Most of the comments I get are about my characters words and actions, not about things I say in the description.

I've said this before but some content just generates more discussion than others. It can have very little to do with quality of genre. Some creators are gonna have a tougher time of getting people to talk. Doesn't mean it's impossible and there are a lot of good suggestions here.

yeah i thought the topic said 'enrage readers' and i was like oh that's easy just make offensive jokes that'll get the butthurt flowing very easily
