Hi again.
Okay, so I spent the last six months+ basically on world-building and honestly I don't feel like I'm actually moving forward with things as much as simply procrastinating. I'm going to need some feedback because I'm getting too much inside my own head I think, then I panic and freeze and I really can't prolong this any longer.
I was going to start a new topic but there's no need to spam and so I just changed the title of this one, I think it works better.
So right now I have two things on my mind:
First: This is a less important, but more specific problem. I'd like to start a Patreon soon, but with the format I have planned, I'm not sure how to structure the reward tiers.
Ideally, I would like to work on a story until it's done, and the post all of it at the same time, basically like a traditional on-going comic series. I understand that probably limits the potential exposure compared to regular page-by-page updates, but on the other side is my tendency to start a comic, do 20-30 pages, start hating the early ones, and being unable to change what's already posted grow to resent my own work and quit altogether.
So I've been thinking maybe I need to embrace the process, and allow the audience feedback to be part of it. Like releasing a beta version of a game, and then fixing it. I think my writing philosophy has changed a lot recently, as I observe mainstream movie industry obsessing with secrecy and shocking plot twists and it all got me thinking, my favourite movies I can watch multiple times knowing exactly what's going to happen. Good storytelling isn't about tricking the audience or keeping them in the dark.
So I guess if there's an actual question I'm asking, it's whether it makes sense for me to, let's say post a full story on Patreon first as a kind of a storyboard, get feedback, then put the effort into rendering and all that. Patrons would not have the experience of reading a comic fresh in that case, more like watching an adaptation of a book turned into a movie. I'm not sure if that's better or not, am I asking people to pay for spoilers basically?
Second: I've been thinking of doing a test comic, a short story just so I can post it on tapas, test the scrolling format, all that. Since most of my story ideas are pretty elaborate, and more suited for a longer format, I decided to go with this random idea that popped into my head one day. But now I've had time to think about it a little longer, it's been growing into a slightly larger thing. Anyway, I guess this isn't really a question, but as I've mention in the first point, I'm thinking of posting storyboards with speech bubbles and all that to get feedback, so maybe I'll do a trial run of that here or at least post some concept art?
The idea is based in my childhood passion for stories like Conan the Barbarian, Xena and the Sword and Sorcery aesthetic (although my universe isn't fantasy).
