Goodnight @LostSpirit ! See you tomorrow for the first discussion!
Some of the writers I respect most are ESL writers, and I believe that some of them may be gracing this thread as well. I'll be sure to add some stuff about writing outside you first language in future discussions because I think it's super important that it gets talked about.
Oh God, so I did Business Economics/Business Law, and a Creative Writing Minor.
There's this 10 - 15 chapters detailing a court case in one of my oldest books and it was only after doing classes on law that I realized that... yeah, none of this makes sense.
As we grow we gain new skills and more knowledge, and I like to see cringing at our old work as a good thing that means we're constantly improving.
Are you an English as a second language speaker? The hardest part for me has been the dialects thing. I've lived in a lot of places---so my accent and English dialect is everywhere. Remembering words as being specific to certain locations is still something I'm trying to teach myself.
Sharing works with strangers is such a nerve-racking thing, but you build up a zeal for it with time!
Preferred Name: Ben
Pronouns: She/Her
Genres you create: Comedy, Slice of Life, Horror
Where you plan to take your writing journey: I’ve been illustrating and primarily drawing comics full time for the past few years so my main goal is just keep pumping out more ambitious work and maybe this year expand the number of publishers I work with? Maybe? There’s also some animation stuff in the works that I’m not sure I’m at liberty to discuss openly yet!!
Hey, wow, fancy thread!
Preferred name: Kate (but I don't mind if you call me Mongoose, it's chill).
Pronouns: She/Her
Genres I create: Character-focused Fantasy, Action and sometimes Soft Sci-Fi.
Plans: I'm making comics again after a break, though I have done professional work as a comic artist in the past, and as a Games Artist and Illustrator until very recently. Now I'm trying to build an audience and create an interesting ongoing series, I'm hoping to monetise Errant when I finish the prologue and start the story proper in a few updates, probably through Patreon. In the future I'll probably Kickstarter a print run to sell at MCM and stuff.

Where you plan to take your writing journey: Oh man, I would love to have my work published and hold it in my hands like hardcover. Or even do Light Novel Serialization...For now, I am hoping to build an audience on Tapas and promote through other social media stuff.

Since I don't have the time or energy to do webcomics, I am doing a light-novel style with each episode having a 'cover' or 'insert' art to accompany the text. This way I can still also shape up my characters too :3. At least with only one of my stories; the other is an anthology.
Heeya everyone ! love the idea of this thread!

Ps :sorry for any mistakes , english is not my native language ^^
@Indigo-Child welcome!
Oh, I like light novels!
Yeah, my first language is portuguese. I mix up british and american versions of words a lot but thankfully no one has paid much attention to it so far, and that's usually as far as it goes. And yeah, with time posting things online gets easier - though with a large story it's important to have a reader to see if you're not making huge mistakes right away. With art it's easy to go 'oh pretty' and move on, but with writing you'll lose a lot if the story's payoffs aren't too engaging.
Hi @ben ! Welcome to the thread! Animation work sounds SUPER exciting!
Hello @darthmongoose ! I love Errant! I'm so happy to see you here!
Welcome @CodeMonkeyArts ! The illustrated light novel thing is super duper popular on Tapas. I wish I had the talent and skill at drawing to do it!
Greetings @Indigo-Child! Don't worry about English not being your native language. There are lots of people here already in a similar situation!
I'm so excited! We're gathering a lot of people so I hope that this will end up fueling some good discussions. We're starting off on the easier end of creative discussions (more Writing 101 stuff) but we're going to be moving steadily into more semi-pro and pro level stuff later on. We want to respond to the needs of the community, so if you ever feel the discussions are getting too basic (or too technical), just shoot me a PM and I'll rejig the thread.
Tomorrow we're going to be doing 3 Act Structures, or the basics of constructing plots. Even for the more experienced crew, it can be a good idea to review the basics sometimes, so I hope you'll all join me!
Hello!
Preferred Name: Dani
Pronouns: They/Them, He/Him
Genres you create: Psychological drama for now (not sure if you would consider character study a genre), possibly cosmic horror, sci-fi and fantasy in the future.
Where you plan to take your writing journey: Finishing my comic and self-publishing.

Not the most socially adept, or active here, but maybe this will help me remember the forum exists. Lol
I'm almost halfway with my plans, I already have the cost figured out, started rescanning pages a couple weeks ago and plan on turning the first four chapters into a book. I will also be halfway done with my comic once I get further into the current chapter.
Ehhh, why not throw myself in here?
Preferred Name: ar.ninetysix just to keep things simple
Pronouns: He/Him but They/Them is fine with me too
Genres you create: Action, Drama, Urban Fantasy (and trying Romance and Comedy)
Where you plan to take your writing journey: Honestly, I'm not sure. I just wanted to try it out. I'm more of a musician and composer, but in the past few years, I've been interested in coming up with stories. That's how I wound up here lol I'm not bold enough to assume I can make this a career, but hey, if that's the way it goes...
Link to Tapas Account: https://tapas.io/ar-ninetysix (but I don't have anything there lol)
I got projects in the works, but that's it. I intend on writing music for my stuff too, so that's nice lol
@ar-ninetysix @UrMom Welcome.
