This is in no way, shape, or form, a valid or sure-fire guide to writing a good story. This guide is purely based on my own observations, analytics, experiences and opinion. Feel free to use this guide at your own risk.
Comics are everywhere, and a comic is created every minute. As you can tell, it is highly competitive and very difficult to monetize. You have to set yourself apart from everyone. From your title, cover art to your comic pages, all of it count.
From a readerās point of view, would you read your own work? Is it interesting? Will I pull out my wallet and pay for it?
1) Create a Unique Premise
-Be inventive and stay away from normal settings. It will make your comic stand out. If it is still set in typical settings, make sure to compensate on characterization and plot.
-Mix locations and places.
2) Attention Grabber
-The first pages of your comic should already hook your readers. Make it exciting and intriguing to entice people to continue reading. Attention is usually achieve through emotions. If it's a comedy, make them laugh with a punch line. If it's fantasy, raise your reader's adrenaline with an action scene. Please do avoid cliche and forced plot devices just to surprise your readers.
3) Focus on one or two Characters
-Avoid introducing all your characters in one chapter. Introduce them gradually. We usually focus on 2-3 characters.
4) Interesting characters
-Model them from real life people and mix in some personalities to make your characters 3 dimensional.
-Make a list of characters you love in fiction or non-fiction and incorporate their personalities to your characters.
