Black and African Lead Characters in comics

No Future features a coloured cast, though not the 'main' character they are still main characters.

Love Love Fighting and Those Two are two others I can think of that I've run into around here that have not already been mentioned (a number of series I watch have already been mentioned here.

Hi.
I write interracial comics which I don't see a lot of. But I am a huge supporter of all African American Comics/manga
I just feel like there isn't enough African American/ Afro Art or comics out there that shows a positive out look for our youth to see. I have a son and daughter and while they are mixed raced I teach them about our heritage and our history and where we come from along with teaching them about their Latino Heritage.

I want to encourage the youth in world to love all skin tones and support their own.

My comic Shadosassins has a black main character as well as other Afrocentric characters. Not that race is a big thing in my comic but I have different looks to some of my characters.

One of my missions as a comics writer and native New Yorker is diversity in representation. My comic Battle-Bug on tapastic features black, Latino, and Asian characters heavily. Outside of tapastic is my horror fantasy work on The Cult House and its prequel one-shot comic In the House of Feasts available for download at Hijack Press' (a racially/ethnically diverse comics collective I cofounded in college) gumroad store for a modest donation of any amount of your choosing.

Great topic! I'd love to see more diverse main characters.
I'm going to do a little self promotion by mentioning Blood and the Art of Baking, which has an African American/ Dominican lesbian main character, as well as a pretty diverse cast.

Well, there's my comic, Spidersilk. It's fairly inclusive, but it is fantasy so technically ethnicities as we know them are not exactly the same. You can decide if it is what you are looking for! Also a fair amount of LGBTQIA representation. I did drop the ball on primary female characters -- there are only a few, but I will do better soon! It was a main mission of mine to include diversity -- representation is important! -- but the story and characters have had a LOT of work put into them. They aren't there for the heck of it or tokenism. I hope you will enjoy reading about them!

Yes! I've been looking for a topic like this. Finally found some Black/African-American comics to subscribe to too. Of course, I'll be throwing my own into the bunch as well. It's a college-style comedy called Edumacation.

All main characters are Black and/or minorities who are trying to find out why they're in college and what they're doing with their life.

Hey @ofneondreams! If you like scifi action comics you can check out Heroes for ghosts. It takes place roughly 1000 years in the future so all the characters are really much more mixed ethnicity than black, white, asian etc... but I created their appearance by extrapolating todays global population demographics so the characters strongly feature African, Asian and South Asian features-- again, most often mixed. Think of it as a "post-racial" civilization! There is actually so far only one character written who even looks traditionally "white." Hope you like it!
