Blocktoon's terrible AI-generated comments

A few days ago I decided to check out Blocktoons and post there. A couple months ago they DM'd me on instagram basically saying "plz post your comic on our site " and I was like ok sure why not

I've only posted 4 episodes (up to page 11) of my comic, and that's when I started getting some odd comments and reviews. I've messed with Chat GPT before, I immediately knew that they were all AI generated (except for one that seemed legit). The thing is, why? If you're gonna be a bot spamming on a random site, why just leave inaccurate but positive comment on someone's page? Unless.... this is from Blocktoons trying to make their site look more active. I don't know if this is for sure the case, but what other reason could it be?

The best part is how they'll leave an absolutely glowing and adoring review and then give it like a 7/10

I'm convinced is the site itself that does it. They reached out to me too. The name Blocktoons was a red flag for starters, immediatly reminded me of crypto bullshit. So color me unsurprised when I checked out their website and discovered... crypto bullshit.

The idea that it is also flooded with Ai bullshit doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Glad I stayed away from them.

I get ads for this one called Tappytoon and I’m wondering if it’s similar to this.

I just don’t trust it really lol. And the captions on them are funny.

To play devil's advocate, just because something has ads on instagram, doesn't make it legitimate.

That's fair, but of the ads I've seen the manwas were originals or officially licensed. They even share some titles with Tapas.

They just recently reached out to me, I wanted to see what a creator thought of the site. Thank you for making this post it was very helpful. The website kept forcing me to sign up to do anything. I wanted to at least see if a real creator has used it but none their IG post shared creator usernames. This post has clarified to me that Blocktoons should be avoided. Thank you again.

My redflags were:
$100 dollar prize WEEKLY pool for just reading(seems like scam artist greed bating)
Website frequently demanding a login(take your data)
Poor load times
Seems to be no human being running the website or operation. (No founder/historical background)
Instagram reach out with a generated message. (No idea who I am just insert the name of my comic, it gets views, get our website views.)

This whole site looks so sketchy it's almost funny. Just a few things I noted from taking a look at it:

• Every image on the front page is overcompressed.. including the header and footer graphics?? The poor 16x16 Instagram logo on the footer has been compressed almost beyond recognition. No legitimate site would do that, especially when you can get icons like that in their full open-source glory from Font Awesome. It looks like they're using ImageKit for all of these images, instead of hosting them locally?
• Poor loading times even with this goofy massive compression. I honestly don't know what's up with that.
• Log-in blocks, which are there to harvest your information. I tried to log in with a TempMail address, but my uBlock Origin wouldn't let me get past the link in the email because it had an AWS tracker.
• The site owner is using DBP to hide their identity on WHOIS, and their lookup says the domain is registered in Arizona... when the site itself is operating out of India.

As a rule of thumb, just don't trust anyone who is using Instagram DMs to invite people to their service. That's the advertiser's equivalent of those pop-ups telling you that you have a computer virus and need to call a totally-legit-not-a-scam hotline immediately.
