Yesterday, my novel reached 50 subs and 100 likes, which is just absolutely stupidly exciting for me (and came so out of nowhere I couldn't think of something to theme this celebration thread with until today), and the vast majority of that is thanks to all the lovely people on these forums, so from me to everyone who's commented, liked, subbed, or even checked out ('cause I sure as hell know that intro chapter needs some work hooking and my grungy BL vibe ain't for everyone) my novel:
Thank you!!
So, (and gg if you've read all my rambling so far, you deserve an award) to celebrate I'm gonna critique your blurbs.
While we all like to pretend we don't judge a book by its cover, there isn't anyone who can say they don't judge a book by it's blurb.
Disclaimer: I am not a blurb expert. I am, perhaps, a blurb failure, but what can you do?
So rules of the thread run:
- Comment on what you like about the blurb above you
- Comment on what you think could be improved (language, length, paragraphing, hooky concepts, etc.)
- As long as you've done 1&2, post your own blurb so the next person can rate it!
- Once someone's replied to yours, I'll also offer some advice, so you get two for one!
- (if you wanna gimme some advice on my blurb that'd be great - or just tell me how great it is (jkjk) - and seriously be savage with me)
And of course, this isn't all hard, fast rules so if you have tips for anyone, put them out there and help out other creators!
So, flex your blurb writing skills, help people out, get a hand, hopefully we can all benefit from Saint's impromptu blurb workshop.
Here's mine to start out! (with freshly edited first sentence based on fresh advice, please roast it again if it's bad)
What happens when the only person to give you hope tears it away? Jobless, spiralling into despair, Casper is a wreck. Yet when the enigmatic Cain steps into his life, a light of hope glimmers in the darkness.
He's a perfect stranger, but Casper should know by now that no dreams last forever, and Cain hides danger behind a smitten mask. Held prisoner by a chilling power, Casper's only hope of freedom lies where the line between reality and delusion blurs beneath his feet.
Is there more to Cain's obsession than madness?
