Well said @IdiotWithPencil!
I'm currently writing a strictly romance series, well I guess there's a little drama in there, but that's about the only cross-pollination of genres there is. I feel like for my personal writing style, I have to focus on one theme without feeling like I botched or swept the others under the rug. Like if I were writing a fantasy quest adventure, the romance would be a very small side thing and I'd focus more on the quest. I don't think I can balance them well. And I find I feel this way with movies and shows, for example in Stardust and Princess Bride, I was much more interested in the fantasy worlds, the side characters, and the quests rather than the lead couples. The one romance movie that is in my favorites list is Maurice, and that's mostly because the characters had ample time to be fleshed out as the runtime didn't have to focus on any extraneous quest or larger story.
I think what makes a lot of strictly romances boring is that the romances are all ones we've seen before. Creators reuse tropes without throwing in any interesting twists. The leading couples also come to be fairly bland and run-of-the-mill both in appearance and personality.
Anyway, end of that mini-rant. Back to the OP. I'm glad you've settled on something! Just remember to develop your leads well and it should work out!
