I know the article. It raises some good points, but a number of untrue or misleading ones as well. (I tend to read very broadly when forming my stances on topics like this. I also own a little crypto, so I've picked up some knowledge here and there.)
There are technical issues which need to be resolved before Ethereum can move to proof-of-stake. (The environmentally friendly version.) Until recently, those were proving difficult to overcome. However, there are now a number of new currencies running using that system, which are ironing out all those technical issues. Ethereum is finally well-placed to be able to follow through on their move to proof-of-stake next year.
If it gets pushed back again, I'll likely be more cynical. Even so, once the issue is resolved, be it in one year or five, I'd be happy to take another look at whether NFT's would be worth dabbling in. I've nothing against the tech. Just the environmental impacts.
