Changing my font... What should I choose?!?!

Hi!
When I started making comics I knew nothing about fonts. So I just took one I thought looked easy to read and ended up with comic sans. A lot of people tells me they hate that font (no one tells me why tho. Is there a reason comic sans is so hated?)
So I want to change my font. But I still want one that is as easy to read.

Help? ^^

Here's my understanding: Comic Sans is basically a rounded, kidsy-looking font, which is fine for.... some things. But it gets used EVERYWHERE. People keep spotting it on official flyers or police announcements -- which make these really serious things suddenly look dopey and laughable.
At this point, putting text in comic sans font has turned into a sign that the writer either knows nothing about design, or is aiming for terrible design on purpose, because of the history of this font being so misused. There are probably places now where it would've been fine at one point, but because of its history it's now kind of a joke.

Blambot has a lot of free fonts (the ones with the little blue "F" beside them) and the fonts they make are quality! If you want more choices or wilder options, you can dig through a place like DaFont, but when I need something simple and legible without just slapping a default font on it, I'll usually grab a free blambot font!

Definitely hit up Blambot. Tons of great free ones as well as pay options. Also has fonts for special effects as well.

i think if you are afraid of being too experimental with the font, blambot's "digital strip" font is a pretty good start.

the font i personally use is blambot's "Milk Mustache" because i like the slight shakeyness of the letters, it matches with the slight shakeyness of my style.

Def go to Blambot- play around with a few free ones you like, see what fits your art.

One more vote for Blambot. I use a font called Back Issues — it's quite close to the traditional, paid font used in commercial comic books.

I use SF Wonder Comic from ShyFoundry Fonts and I really love it; it comes complete with all the formatting I need for a good comic font. It's not free (despite what some font sites will tell you), but the license is very inexpensive and it's an excellent font. If you're in the market for a very solid font and like the look, I'd certainly recommend it!

I was useing Anime Ace, but I got sick of all caps. I didn't want to use something that I need to worry about something may be free to use or needed to pay for it, So I use my own handwriting. http://www.myscriptfont.com/
I'm pleased with it, but the spacing is off so I need to space them out a bit. Not a huge deal. Just make sure it's legible. =3

Same here, still using Anime Ace since I haven't found anything I'd rather use...
Would love it if you guys could check out my comic Legends of Kayal and tell me if it looks fine or it I should try to find another font style

As a graphic designer, comic sans is the most hideous, boring childish font. It screams "children's party" not "something that took effort." I am obsessed with fonts and any time I see comic sans it takes every piece of me to suck it up and give it a chance. In my opinion, I just find it to be a hideous font. There are many other easy to read fonts, heck you can even find free to use comic fonts with just a google search.
I do have to say, type a bit with them though, some of the free fonts can have weird leading in them and such. I went though a few before I found one that I really found easy to read and work with.
But please...no comic sans. The font should no longer exist. I swear.

Blambot is a good source! I use Blambot's Nightwatcher font :> even if it means pissing off letterers since the font only has crossbar i's... womp womp. But I'm partial to the upper-lowercase font, rather than the traditional all-caps.

You might also try 1001 Free Fonts, but I would be careful as not all of the fonts on that site are ideal for lettering.

The thing about comic sans, aside from it being an internet joke, is that is wasn't even designed for comic lettering to begin with. Aside from looking goofy and generic, it has uneven kerning, which makes for sloppy lettering.

A good rule of thumb when choosing comic fonts-- if it came pre-installed on your computer, don't use it!
