It's fascinating case because unlike the villains who are an established military, this is the "teens have to run things" plot and so their uniforms are designed and made by the school kids as the think a uniform should be. So obviously main characters should have colour variations way more than the rest of them. It's one of the few shows I've seen that totally doesn't shy away from kids being forced to run things can go really really wrong.
I always think the two should be totally entwined. And you can always tell when someone has gone through effort to make a design and when they've just slapped something together. There's nothing wrong with "because it was cool" of course, but it's nice when the two go together.
It definitely is. There's also a huge issue often pops up in younger aimed anime girls who do put their hair up in fights often have big bright ribbons which isn't that much better, especially in a situation where it makes you an obvious target. Going back to my above post, note our villain with the chin length bob, despite being a reasonably short length, whenever he's sent into battle he puts it back even further. Meanwhile the girls on the hero side constantly have theirs loose and there are several side material scenes of people trying to convince them to put it back.
On a similar note, Juliet (?I think?) from Artemis Fowl put heavy beads in her hair so they would hit people are she fought.
This is very much just socially expected now and lots of men don't these days anyway. However my issue with the full three-piece is the trousers! This is one of my biggest problems with one of my favourite shows. Yes, lots of them forgo the full three-piece and most favour the waistcoat and shirt only, but I have never found a pair of formal trousers I can get my leg anywhere near above my head like some of them do. Sure, throwing and punching might not be such a problem, but I've never come across a pair of formal trousers allowing enough stretch for what they do.
As far as I'm aware that's pretty much why they were created. They're heavy duty and allow for a lot of hard work on farms ect where the work requires a comfortable cut and durability but they were not designed to stretch. As mentioned, leggings are super stretchy, but stretchy material won't last as long. Although both these issues are becoming less of an issue with modern fabric developments.
(Nitpick sorry) Munakata in the middle is the boss (and he is badass) and we won't talk about the lady second in command, Seri (haha I know fanservice was a big insistence to get this funded but did we really need to see her butt and cleavage in very shot she was in???) not pictured is Fushimi the third in command who is very sloppy with his uniform, wears it unbuttoned and sleeves rolled up and hair over his face (even more than some of them already). It sets him apart very well as not quite belonging and also he gets away with it because he's a lazy genius who would rather be behind a screen doing recon and organisational work (and almost because he's also a genius who's used to being the smartest in the room just like Munakata he's not afraid to talk to the boss like he's a human which makes him the favourite).
But that does lead to a big complain I have having cosplayed Fushimi and a few others who do this. Sleeves that stop/get rolled to the elbow or just below are a pain in the ass! Having a tight sleeve stop at the elbow makes it god awful to bend your arm in and I wish people would stop doing that.
