Edit: We've got enough inquiries for flatting - so that's closed while we're reviewing them! But still considering for lettering.
Hey Tapas peeps! Sooo after a couple years of handling all the comic production myself, Mig and I (Meg) decided it's time to outsource a bit so I can spend more time on pencils and line art... my true love lol... plus keep working on my 3D skills.
Few general requirements:
- Clip Studio Paint
- Be over 18 years old
- Can accept Paypal
- Would be nice if you have Discord but not strictly necessary
The immediate need is for a 60-80(ish? still thumbnailing!) panel vertical scroll one shot we're currently making which we want to wrap up in June or early July. We've also got an ongoing project (currently on hiatus, also scroll format), The Purple Ribbon, which is kind of sort of winding towards the end - hoping to be making about 8-14 panels per week on that starting back up in July or August. After that's completed we plan to take a break to prep assets etc, then return to the one-shot and continue that into a series. So ideally we're looking for long term assistants that are interested in working with us on an action fantasy comic but don't mind finishing up our historical romance project with us too.
Lettering
For our one shot/upcoming series, we're anticipating: regular speech bubbles, thought/narration, (maybe) fancy speech bubbles for at least one main character, smaller unobtrusive sound effects, and shiny colorful action sound effects. We're aiming for a style and density reminiscent of typical premium action series on Tapas/Webtoon but open to ideas if something else looks better with my artwork, tbh. Just to add - The Purple Ribbon is fairly "quiet" but next project should be a lot closer in work volume to an action series where many/most panels may include sound effects.
Ideally I envision sending over files to the letterer that could be as rough as the sketches in 1st column plus notes if necessary, where any dialogue will be typed up roughly in position with sketched bubbles but not formatted (like the 2nd column) and receiving a file back in CSP format with the lettering organized in folders and kept as unmerged in layers/vector format where possible so I can make adjustments if there are later changes to the art or text. But I'm absolutely willing to consider other workflows. And of course if I'm further along with panels I'll send whatever I have, but you know how it is :).
If this sounds interesting, please let us know your rates/projected turnaround time per 10 panels and send a link to one or more examples of your lettering work so we can find a good fit! Feel free to reply here, use forum DMs or you can email us at migxmegcomics@gmail.com. We're looking to start with someone in June so we'll make a decision in a few weeks.
Flatting (or more?) [CLOSED]
For flats, I'd like to send panels individually as CSP files that would look very similar to this, which is a representative example of my line art/level of detail and file structure, though character designs for upcoming are a touch more complicated (I'll at least rename the folder something useful though):
I use 3d models for backgrounds and have a semi-automated workflow for adding lighting and some other coloring process stuff that I take care of after you send the flatted file back. If there are non-character objects in the scene I'd color them myself, with characters' weapons being an exception as those will be consistent/included on the character sheets. If running the additional coloring process and adding shiny stuff/textures/lighting (or heck, even helping me figure out the colors for various scenes, magic effects etc.) sounds interesting, we would be delighted to pay more per panel and credit you as the colorist but definitely will involve more back and forth and openness to critical feedback and collaboration. Flats would be a lot more straightforward - I'll send a color sheet for each character and fill settings I use that require fairly minimal cleanup with my line art. There may be a couple characters who have pieces of clothing that need to be colored on their own layer, but I'll be super explicit about it.
If this sounds interesting, please let us know your rates/projected turnaround time per 10 panels and send a link to one or more examples of your coloring work. If interested in more extensive color work, please provide a separate rate or estimate (I'm not 100% sure about outsourcing this, but considering it). Feel free to reply here, use forum DMs or you can email us at migxmegcomics@gmail.com. Before we decide to work with someone we'll probably do a couple of (paid) test panels just to make sure that the process works for everyone.
Not that it's a huge visibility benefit at this point lol, but we will obviously credit anyone that works on an episode at the bottom of each episode with your social media in addition to paying you.
That's it - please feel free to ask questions or let me know if I'm doing this wrong or missed any important information XD.
