It really depends on which comic we're talking about. Some comics work much better in grayscale, because it fits with the theme. Same argument can also be used with coloured comics.

There is no better approach. Both can be enjoyable and both can be meeeh if done it wrong.
But I will say that colors can be more appealing for the guy who doesn't read comic in his daily routine.
Based on people I know, some people couldn't get into manga because they were black and white, I can understand where they are coming from I actually don't like reading black and white or greyscale webcomic but I could like it, if those webcomic were available in a physical format.

When it comes to statistics color does better then grayscale due to the fact that it is eye catching.
But ultimately it comes down to artist and reader preference.

i think colour provides you with a lot more to play with, a lot more ways to guide and influence the reader, and make your art pop. im a biiiig advocate of colour.

however, greyscale or a limited palette can look really classy and compliments some comics perfectly. can you imagine shaderunners in full colour? thatd be ridiculous
