Hello everyone,
I’m a novelist working on different projects that are currently available for free to read on Wattpad:
https://www.wattpad.com/user/LittleBlueberryCake
My current motivation is to be able to reach a broader audience with my stories. For one I am working on building up a creative writing portfolio but for that to have an impact I have to have readers and since turning my stories into audiobooks is still not working out as good as I hoped I am looking to turn on of my stories into a comic.
In this day and age books and stories lose more and more of their central position in entertainment and they are taken over by online comics. My dream is to turn my stories into TV-Shows, Animes and other forms of easily obtainable entertainment since I consider myself more of a storyteller than a Novelist. I want people to enjoy the stories I make up.
The problem with that wish is that it needs waste funding and as a poor university student I do not have the means to fund a project like that which is why I want to create this comic first.
The novel this comic will be based on is a transmigration novel base on Chinese high fantasy novels. Because of this, the comic will be pushed into a specific style that I will get into closely later on when giving more details about the comic itself. For now, I want to go into further detail on the novel to give you an overview of what you would be working on. The story is focused on a young man who finds himself transmigrated into a world where people cultivate spiritual powers. There are three ways to cultivate those powers and the corresponding energy core. One of these ways is called ShuCha which is the way of cultivating through cooking. In this world, everything is surrounded by spiritual energy this energy is filtered by plants and animals and ShuCha then take that energy to cook dishes that contain spiritual energy. Whoever even though it sounds like a cooking story in the beginning there isn’t much cooking going later in the story that will change and there will be more food involved.
This leads to the Skills I’m looking for. First of all, as I said not much cooking so you don’t have to be extremely good at drawing food since it isn’t a main requirement in the beginning.
I will provide storyboards such as this:
I just started drawing recently and only have been doing digital art for a few weeks that’s why I am hoping to improve my storyboard over time but for now, this is the best I can do and I hope that it helps with pacing and telling the story to have something to work off of.
I will also provide a detailed script for each episode with dialogue and descriptions of new characters as well as speech bubbles for where the text is going in the storyboard as soon as I learned how to do that. (As I said I’m still learning and I’m in no way an artist I’m a storyteller)
Further for the style, I’m looking for, as previously state: the story is heavily influenced by Chinese Fantasy so the style I’m looking for is a similar style to these pictures:

(None of these pictures are mine if they belong to you let me know I will take them down or give credit)
I have tried drawing my two main characters myself before it might be of some help for reverences even though it isn’t good:
For the picture as well as the storyboard I have used Krita but since I am not familiar with the most comfortable software to use and I know everyone has a preference I will not ask you to use Krita.
Since this is a big project and as I previously stated I am just a poor university student the project itself will be unpaid. I am willing to work out a steady pay as soon as I can make any kind of income from the project itself. This includes promotions, social media, Patreon and direct income from the comic. I know that comics don’t make much money and that even if they get popular, they never earn a lot of income. That’s why I am willing to work out a finical plan for income that isn’t directly from the comic. For me, this is still a way to build a financial base on which I can turn the story into an easily accessible form of entertainment but I understand that I’m not the only one working on this. That’s why any income will be split how is negotiable.
The scale of the project is from now a trial of 20 episodes to see if the comic can make any impact. After that, all conditions can be renegotiated if the comic is able to make an impact if there is no impact at all the project might be dropped. Each episode will be about the same length as the storyboard that I provided earlier. And I am aiming for a five-to-ten-episode buffer before publishing the first since I know that life can sometimes turn everything upside down in an instant and I know that even if that happened the story needs to go on and you can’t just stop publishing your story because you have a bad week.
The schedule I’m currently having in mind is an episode a week since anything else would be too slow or too fast. In my experience, a week is the longest a reader is willing to wait for the next chapter without losing too much interest at the same time it leads to a consistent schedule that can help with revisiting readers. Anything under a week is impossible with working on the storyboard and the comic since I will take one or two days to get the storyboard out and turning them into a comic will once again take a lot of time. That’s why the buffer and the weekly schedule.
