Great work, you guys! ^^
The last few days were not great, so I am glad I was still able to finish and publish the daily update (even though a bit too late in the day). Well, it's not without reasons I only finished 3 inktobers in 6 years before this one xD thankfully after some point you really want to fail a day, but just can't allow yourself to do it 🤪
@Kelheor Thanks, great work to you too! You're really killing it this month with your "inky" style. Those full illustrations have so many lovely little details.
Also, I've been drawing about 10 years now and I've only done monthly art challenges maybe 4 times. It sounds so simple, but yeah, there were many days I want to "fail" too. So yeah, you're not alone.
I’ve been pretty busy and forgetting to post my progress!
I vectored the panels that are new for episode 31 yesterday. A preview: (click to view the full version)
Doing a lot of 3D backgrounds is paying off since this scene in the phone booth reuses background that took hours to model, and several minutes to render and blend!
However, I started to learn how to cel-shade metal textures in Blender so I could render this background again with cel-shading. Learning how to cel-shade other backgrounds could be more efficient and help me skip a time-consuming step to blend the renders, but it wouldn’t be as consistent to have this sudden and noticeable change within the same scene or area.
I could show a comparison of those later and ask for feedback about that. Today I started porting panels from the previous comic version and spacing them out on the webtoon episode. This step is before making any adjustments to these panels.
I didn’t get any work on my webtoon done today, but I posted announcements for the launch of episode 30 on my site and blog for Magical Renegades, and on my Mastodon page.
Today I’m finishing up some new pages that I’ll be adding to my site. One of them is about Magical Renegades as a project and my experiences with it. It has a section about my production process, and another page I’m writing is about this challenge!
Participating helped a lot with writing about the production process so I'm very thankful for this challenge for this and to see others' daily progress! I hope to publish these new pages today or by this weekend!
Nice progress! It’s okay to not make progress every single day of the challenge, and resting is important when sick!
I’d feel the same way though, really wanting to still get work done and try to when sick.
No progress on my webtoon today (yet?), but I published the first version of my article about this challenge along with other major updates on my site!

@SynergyEclipse hey, this was really entertaining to read! I like this journal kind of idea ^^
Since Instagram is officially blocked (it actually was for some time, but it still worked on my WiFi) it's really annoying to use it now. Thankfully I am still able to update and hope it will start to work without vpn again
@SynergyEclipse Nice article! I enjoyed reading about your daily progress!
@Kelheor Thanks! I’m glad it was fun for you to read! It was fun for me to write too, and I could write about more challenges moving forward in this format!
That’s so frustrating to have a platform you use get blocked, but that’s good you can still post your updates!
@gabriellabalagna Awesome! You’re so close to completing another page for the month!
I got some more progress yesterday. I remade a panel from a page I’m adapting for episode 31. This a side by side comparison:
The alarm clock design in the second panel was also tweaked to fit the redesign.
I don’t need to redo the characters from the pages I’m adapting, but I wanted to remake the interior backgrounds for consistency and more detail, and I wanted to add some extra panels to help with the pacing.
Today I rendered 3 backgrounds and plan to blend them or adapt more panels next.
I know I haven't posted her in a couple of weeks but I have been working on the comic this whole time. I'm almost done coloring this batch of pages and all I can say is... why, oh did I have to draw in this much fire. It's been taking up most of my coloring time and I'm kind of getting sick of it...
@IndigoShirtProd oh I totally felt the same drawing the Call for action chapter
Halloween special update today! ^^
@Kelheor My pleasure! Thanks so much to you too; I feel the same way. And wow, this last artwork blows me away. The composition is so good.
Day 30! Today I tried to add hay to all the panels that need it. Might redo it without the texture brush though, doesn't really match my style. 🫤
Tomorrow will be the last day of the challenge for me. Which I'm half relieved, half sad about. My November goals might be to work on Chapter 2, or I might rebuild my buffer of blog posts for next year.
@IndigoShirtProd The fire turned out great on that page, but I get how frustrating it’d be to have to spend so much time coloring it before moving onto the next steps!
@Kelheor Great job with the Halloween special drawings and the last drawing for this challenge. The last one is so elaborate!
@gabriellabalagna The hay looks good as it is but I can also see how it sticks out from the style of the rest of your panel. I’ll also be sad about this challenge ending and tomorrow will also be the last day of it for me, but I’m so glad to have participated in it. Thanks for hosting it!
Yesterday and today I ported more panels from my previous comic version to episode 31 and added some extra panels in between scenes.
WIP from day 28. The panel of the door opening is new.
WIP from today. The pocketwatch close-up is new today so it's not shaded yet.
I also updated my Comics Challenge article with entries for today and yesterday, which explain a bit more about why the pacing is different when I adapt comic pages into an episode!
Day 31! My goal of completing chapter 1 of my comic this month is 95% complete. But I'd rather take a little extra time than strain my hand/arm. Just need to finish up the shading & it'll be done. Yay!
A final word: Thank you @SynergyEclipse @Kelheor and the rest of ya'll who did the challenge with me. It was so fun working on our comics together with such a friendly group!
If I ever do the challenge in the future I'll advertise it ahead of time so we can get more people to join. But I did enjoy it being a small, tight-knit group this time! Happy Halloween!
