Comics or Visual Novels?

Just a question I've been thinking about a lot. When do you think one medium is better than the other for a story you want to tell?

This depends on the story you want to tell. Most stories are reliant upon their medium. I would examine how your story would benefit from one or the other. Really explore the pros and cons of how it could be told in either format. That should get you your answer.

Manga style in my opinion especially since tapastic is mainly a comic platform

I'm not the most clued up, but I don't actually know the difference between the comics and visual novels. In my mind the mediums are so broad that they overlap. I've seen graphic novels used comic-strip style boxes at times and 'comics' break out the of the classic format to be more adventures with panel structure like many graphic novels. Honestly, I'd say you're better just starting the story how you feel is right and settling into your chosen format from there. No need to shoehorn your story into something for the sake of it. Just get going and see how you feel.

Are we taking visual novel or the "light novel" as they are called in Japan where every few pages there might be splash art or a graphic novel which is a comic but bigger than the average issue?

The manga that someone else brought up: each of those chapters often show up in magazines in Japan and then we get the completed eight or so chapter books which could be called a graphic novel here in America/not Japan.

And then of course you have the webtoon and strips... All sorts of stuff.

How long is your comic/ideas? That will determine which format you'll want to choose.
