I've made a thread on this, it should answer your question nicely. Hope it helps:

I think you’re going to have a bit of trouble if you’re trying to get into the big publications right now. Honestly, the work isn’t quite there yet and if it were it’s still very difficult to break into the mainstream market with that style.

If you’re really set on trying right now though your best bet is to self publish and do the convention circuit and try to get the work into as many people’s hands as possible. Publishers don’t really just choose who to publish based on just skill alone. They want to see that you can push your own work and get it out there because of the things you’d be doing as someone who is published by that company is you’re also working to get new readership for them. That’s why it’s not uncommon for publishers now to just pick up folks who have pretty big followings on the internet already.

But another thing self publishing does is show that you’re willing and able to do a lot of work. Comics publishing can be extremely hard because so many people will try to draw comics and realize that their ability to follow through on their project isn’t very high and the projects fall apart, deals fall apart, money is wasted, time is lost.

Basically you want to set yourself up so that you can show a potential publisher that you are a safe and viable option: having more than one FINISHED comic in your oeuvre, hitting the convention circuit to show you’re taking it seriously (this is also where to actually meet publishers face to face), and having a solid built in fanbase of people who will buy your books and products.
