Hey! that's my story, too! Ten years on twitter, for not enough gain and very few sales that's partly why I don't use it as much as I used to. (hell, I even wrote a comic about the stress of chasing numbers) I have tried literally every advice over the past 10 years, and what I learned was that being an artist is very different from being an influencer.
My goal to become both an artist and an influencer was robbing me of really doing the art that I need to do and gaining the skills I need to gain to get...hired by my dream jobs. I looked at my follower base and was like...none of these people are hiring me. They're not reading my stuff (it's a similar problem to this forum where we are all creators, not necessarily readers) So like...maybe I should spend less time on twitter.
And like we all have different end goals, and different art styles, so for some people twitter is absolutely the way to go because their art fits the twitter mold. Twitter was made just for them (like especially if you're in animation, since they will hire directly from twitter) But Twitter is essentially just throwing a net out into the sea, and if you don't have a particular art style, then chances are really low anyone will see it. I had to learn the hard way that it doesn't replace direct marketing like emailing your portfolio to art directors, sending mailers, and all that old school word of mouth stuff.
