Hi, so i've been trying to write a short story to work on as I don't have a lot of experience in drawing comics.
I find i usually suck at making interesting short stories, but love to write short poetry.

I'm wondering if there is a place for short comics based of poetry. If there is anyone who has published this type of short story comic, would you say this really counts as a short story?

Well a "short" comic is relative to how much of a story you want to tell so, that just comes down to planning it out once you've got your poem written. I'd definitely say there is a place for poems and short stories though, and as long as you select the genre or tags as you go, I don't see a reason why you couldn't release a series of short stories/comics based on poetry. (Although to keep it simple for your subscribers you might just change the comic's description, pictures and name when you switch gears so they don't have to keep subscribing to different series for an update. Put it all under one roof like an anthology and I think that'd work just fine.)

I wrote a short comic based on several small poems2 I'd written for it and it's over 200 pages worth of comic. (I promise I'm not posting to shill, I just wanted to show how I'd done this part. There are several poems that take place within the body of the work itself so, I figured that this first one might illustrate best what I mean.) It may not seem short but it actually IS story wise lol. (That section of it was recently concluded, yay!) I do believe it's possible, it all comes down to planning and the story angle you want to use. It's totally doable! So I'd say, if that's something you want to do, give it a try and see how you feel about it.

yoooo merging poetry and comics is my jam

course, theres lots of ways you can do it. ive always considered emily carroll's through the woods to be a very lyrical collection of comics, and has been a big influence when adapting one of my own poems into a graphic novel. i recommend it as reference material

but theres also Poetry ComicsTM, which come in all shapes and sizes
