Criticize this completed artwork

Put my finishing touches on this and now i'm going to leave it be. A common criticism is that he looks a bit off balance, unfortunately i already went over the outline with pen so i couldn't fix it.

I also need to get better at drawing grass and nature in general actually. That's some other things i need to practice.

Any other pieces of advice?

I think I read on tumblr somewhere that the quickest way to improve is to draw with ink and not fix any of ur mistakes. I have that on my art blog on insta lisasartist. It's worked well for me. Maybe try it for poses and figures? It helps if you draw from life too.

If you think about where the spine is and how it connects to the head then you'll start seeing problems with his pose. Consider these other things:

• His hips seem to be pointing one way while the position of his legs contradict this.
• His jaw is positioned up but his eyes don't seem to follow suit. (Yes the pupils are looking down but even the shape of the eyes seem to imply that they are positioned straight-on which contradicts the head's position).

So there are a lot of parts of his body which are well-drawn as separate elements but they don't seem to be moving together as one whole system. One body.

I think you're clearly talented but you need to draw more from life. Observe the human body in its natural state as well as the trees and other parts of nature.

I guess I could try that. I usually try to use pens for inking. Maybe I could use pens for gesture drawing or something.

Yeah I still need to work on my anatomy. I don't have much of an idea of how the spine works so maybe looking up how it does work will help.

Also thanks for your criticism. And yes, I do need to draw from life more often. I went to some life drawing sessions but I haven't gone to one recently.

hi!! im sorry i didnt realize how old this post was lmao, this is my first time posting on a new account and it popped up in my forum feed
but anyway! the main thing i wanted to address was the inclination of the human form to rest at opposing angles with the spine acting as a throughline--"contrapposto"! it's pretty neat

Can you explain a little bit more in detail?

it means that when a human body is relaxed, weight will be distributed along one leg, and the different angles of the body will rest at opposing axes! so the shoulders will complement the angle of the hips, and so on, and the throughline of the body will follow one leg as a pillar of stability
