How did it go?
Eh, I'd give it a B+. This short little quest was part of a larger West March campaign, so that helped. (West March: a type of community game with multiple dungeonmasters taking turns). I had three players which is a nice sized group for the medium of a Discord Voice channel. The challenge I gave them was way underpowered for these partiuclar PCs, but I did manage to throw them a couple of puzzles that were tougher.
The PCs were sellswords. They were given a choice of three quests, but that was an illusion of choice. The real adventure was what happened on the road going to the job, so it didn't matter what they chose. The centerpiece scene was a scenario I copied from an old Palladium Fantasy adventure. The journey is interrupted when a sphinx appeared on a bridge and told the adevnturers that they could not pass without solving her riddle. In truth, the sphinx doesn't care about the riddle and was stalling them while some monster-bandits circled behind them for an ambush. The PCs fell into the trap but easily survived and succeeded, largely because of my terrible rolls for the NPCs, but the PCs deserve some credit too -- I guess.
