This year's Desert Bus for Hope starts on Friday - and this year a signed copy of my serial/novel Re:Apotheosis is one of the giveaway prizes: https://desertbus.org/prize/85
So, why should anybody care (other than for a "hey, congrats!" sort of thing). Desert Bus is a charity marathon raising money for Child's Play, which in turn uses that money to do things like put video game consoles into the rooms of children's hospitals. That might not seem like much, but here's the thing:
Imagine being stuck in a hospital bed for a moment. Sadly, a lot of us have probably already been there (I know I have). Perhaps it was emergency surgery, or perhaps it was pneumonia or some other illness. Either way, it sucks, you're going to get poked and prodded and have all sorts of invasive tests run, and when that's not happening it's boring, but it's where you need to be to get better, and that knowledge makes it bearable.
Now imagine being too young to understand why you're there.
So, the money donated to Child's Play through Desert Bus makes a very real difference in the lives of children and their families who are at their lowest. I've been a corporate sponsor of Desert Bus through my business for years, in part for this reason. This makes the world a better place. And, all of the comedy, improv, and watching comedians torture themselves playing a terrible video game doesn't hurt either.
