So like a lot of artists, my beginnings of sharing and discovering art started on DeviantART. However, over time I lost interest in the site, finding issues in the community and especially the lack of updates to the site (other than random stuff nobody wanted, and making their membership a more expensive with benefits competitor site offered free *cough *.)
Now I just forget to post there for months, drop some art off and disappear until next time.

Today I was doing that exact thing, when I noticed the ad for the new site update. A BIG one by the looks of things.

Have you checked out Eclipse yet? What's your opinion on the changes being made?
If your someone who uses dA frequenty - are you sad to see the old look go? If you're someone like me who left the site - would you be interested in trying it with these changes in store? Thoughts?

Interesting.

I could never really get into DeviantArt ...because, in my own time, I focus on creating stories. I was never comfortable putting up art/singular illustrations that I had done for others/pay.

I'd be interested to see if any of the changes create a format more flexible to what I do.

So how does the site work? As a replacement of the old deviantArt or as a standalone site? Is it paid thought?

I honestly don't care about look, I'm not nostalgic person. If dA fixed its issues, enforced its guidelines, and ensure better community then I'm in.

This looks like they mashed together the interfaces of pinterest and artstation. It's not a bad look but I don't see how it'll increase community engagement.

It's... neat I guess? I gave up on dA a long time ago too. I still post there for the few people who somehow follow my stuff but this update might just be my last reason to stop using the site completely.

Apparently they're also making changes to how they present literature on the site. I know back in highschool when I wanted to share my writing, dA was a major no because you could literally drag and copy over someones submission and steal every word of it.

I'm interested in the changes, but I have no clue if I'll actually pick up the site again either.

By the sounds of things, it's more of an update instead of a site move? But I could have misinterpreted it. I'm also curious what needs to be paid for if they're removing ads.

I should have worded it better, but yeah I don't believe the aesthetic will make a big difference. I meant more about if people who use the site are looking forward to the new features and layout, or if they'd prefer dA just stay the same its been for so long.

I couldn't agree more. I had no issue with the old site layout etc. But they definitely need work on their community. Because the update talks about better tailoring whats shown to you based on your likes etc - I'm curious to see if it'll make avoiding the uh weirder sides of dA I dislike easier haha (tho that doesn't exactly fix the overall problems)

I was JUST reading about that. I still use DA and even though sometimes I think of giving up on it mainly because it turned into a porn site and only cares about the big artists with millions of followers, but I'm still updating regularly in hope something might change and their new Eclipse layout I thought was actually awesome, it's just perfect for every site where I wanna display my artwork. I signed up on the waiting list along with others and now I just sits and waits. (o-o)/

Yeah, that was a big factor in me leaving the site. People can do what they want, but when I get people trying to push me to make their kinky art for them (which is nowhere near what kind of art I draw), and its hard to avoid all the uncensored stuff on the site - I'm out ^^;
I'm curious to see what the changes will do for discovering art though, if the new update they're promising will do a good job of tailoring what I see so I can avoid the porn better lmao, and actually find some new artists instead of the already popular ones.

I'm signed up on the waiting list as well haha :v: No clue if I'll stick around, but I'm definitely curious to try it out and see.

Extremely frequent user of dA here. And I...feel nothing?

I mean, so the website gets a flashy new look, whoopee. I'm interested in this "love meter" they described, as well as anything else that actually changes the user interface, but as for the aesthetic I don't really care that much.
...I'm kinda dreading having to dress up my gallery, though (personally, I don't really care for all that 'customization' stuff. It just means I have to do more work in order to look professional...)

So I have been on the site for over 10 years. I have seen it evolve. I know that I was unhappy with the recent change. When it comes to this new design, I dunno, it sort of looks like those "build your own website" designs. You know, where you just drag and drop things and there is nothing remotely unique about it except for your personal art.

I really wish the site would work on other stuff instead, like making a block filter for key words. I feel like every time I see the home page, it's fetish art or someone posting an unpopular opinion and people fighting in the comments. And I have no clue if they fixed the forums, which used to run like a lite version of 4Chan. Maybe they should focus of the toxic elements of the site that scare people away from it.

As someone who spent their whole teens on that site, I'm not sure what to think just yet. It looks a lot nicer, but at the same time, what bugged me the most about it was how impossible it was to be noticed on there, and yeah, the more... toxic elements of that site didn't help either.
I hope some of that is fixed by them updating the search functions, and that it doesn't just bury things when they don't immediately get a ton of activity on them like facebook and other sites...

Customization seems nice though, I'm always a fan of that.

I am interested. That site needed an update at least.

I lost interest in that site some time ago because of the fetish art flooding it, but I'm curious about the changes.

been there since ~13 years go and stopped using many years now.
this update is just... okay? i just schemed through it and i cannot bring myself to feel anything towards dA anymore.
it's so... irrelevant. The new name itself is mouthful and a lot to type in XP

what exactly does this offer that other places don't already offer? does this permanently replace the current dA we know? is it paid? will it still have journals and comments or will it be more of a portfolio now? will rules still be applied so arbitrarily? can we hide pageviews yet? will they still allow porn and art theft? will it have actual moderation?

I stopped posting on it a long time ago. Managing so many social sites became daunting and it was hard to keep going in deviantART, expecially each time I enter I am hit with like 1000 notifications (even if only a day has past). Not sure if this will bring me back to it, but I'll try adding it back to my list to see if it works.

They could redesign their site as much as they want, doesn't change the fact its a garbage dump. I'm already deleting my account on there since I never use it and people legitimately laugh at me I still keep my account up telling me how disappointed they are I still use what is essentially a dead fap bait site for weirdos.
