Did Someone Else's Content Influence Your Comic/Novel?

Hey there! Newbie to Tapas and this forum, but I wanted to get to know some peeps! So here's a question for ya.
Has someone else's Content (comic, show, movie, writing, ect.) influenced whatever you are working on presently? I know I can't be the only one who's idea was originally spawned from my love of a TV show or two.

My series Far Out was influenced, besides my love of mystery and the paranormal, by a few shows: Invader Zim, Gravity Falls, and ALF. I kinda wanted to mix my favorite feelings from all three into something new!

How about you guys?

i think There was a War has prolly been heavily influenced by the books The Dark Wife and The Song Of Achilles, which are both also myth retellings like TWAW is.

But now, being in the process of writing it, i think the podcasts The Once and Future Nerd and Friends at the Table are influencing my ideas, as their descriptions of orcs are very close to my descriptions of Fomor in some ways, and things they bring up influence how i think abt TWAW.

Heavy Horns: Est Em's work, and to a lesser extent Natsume Ono's work.
Sarota Springs: Stranger Things for its atmosphere.

SPIRE is the most heavily inspired by James Roberts' More Than Meets the Eye and then other lesser influences like Wander Over Yonder and Ava's Demon

Oh definitely! I used to follow a lot of webcomics back in 2012-13 but then I dropped out of it for a while until I discovered Ava's Demon in 2015 and I knew I wanted to make a comic. I'd have to say that things like Ava's demon, Countdown to Countdown, LUCY (the movie), Bee and Puppycat, and sci-fi movies were/are my main inspirations. It's really nice to look at other media and see that subconsciously what you like best about it transfers over to your work and becomes something entirely new

We've been big fans of anime and comic books forever. As well as other stories like fairy tales and mythology. I feel like Arcus Ink is just a collection of all the things we love. So it's not necessarily directly influenced by anything but there are definitely references.

That's really neat! I loved WOY, and while I've never heard of More Than Meets the Eye a lot of other people have said that Ava's Demon as an influence for them too. I'll have to check those two out!

I entirely agree! I almost see it as a compliment to the original thing; like a nod of the head to something we admire. And I like the variety of things that inspired your comic; Bee and Puppycat is an awesome cartoon, and I've seen a lot of people cite Ava's Demon so I'll have to check that out.

Yeah! I definitely suggest Ava's Demon. It's an internet classic and it really has inspired so many webcomics out there

yes as I had been reading batman for 30 years before I started with my comic it got influenced a bit

Batman and Superman have become archetypes of the two kinds of superheros. I think all of us doing superhero comics are always influenced by them, even if it's a little

i do have a super hero but my comic is mostly a teen drama , the crime was influenced by gotham

Hmm, I guess my comic is closest in content to old school stuff like Snoopy and Garfield. There's a funny little central character who shouldn't normally talk (or exist frankly) and some of the action comes from what they are and some of the action comes from their various eccentricities.

I didn't do this on purpose but I did read this stuff obsessively when I was like six or seven so I do probably owe Schultz and Davis a debt somewhere. Hey, you can't fault a classic.

My artwork is a bit Nick Sharratt. This time I know it's a coincidence because I know I drew like that before I even touched a Jacqueline Wilson book. However, a love of writers like Wilson, Dahl, Milligan (and so on) probably encouraged me. I might have dropped that drawing style otherwise.
