Did the Webtoon contest go under the radar?

So the final winner of the contest has been announced congratulations to the creator of Cape of Spirits and all the runner ups involved and as happy as I am for the winners I kinda feel like its all gone under the radar....

To give like an overview from the timeline of how i saw the contest

Beginning of contest - It was really hype, pretty much on all the SNS I use people were constantly talking about it like everyday (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr)

Contest close and finalist announced - A lot of people were disappointed that they didn't win so they pretty much stopped talking about the contest (which I completely understand) but then even Webtoon kinda seemed to ignore the winners as I don't think they promoted them that much, as a matter of fact the only reason why I was aware of the happenings of the contest was because i follow the creator of Cape of Spirits on Instagram and she would constantly update us on the contest

Top 4 are announced - Even less people are talking about the contest and even the subscribers for each of the series seem to plateau (but don't get me wrong, series like House of Stars / Cape of Spirits got a big boost in subs and likes and so did the other comics but that was after they were fist announced as the winners and I haven't seen any extreme growth since then but this might be because people are waiting for these series to be featured before they subscribe)

Grand Winner Announced - I actually found out from the winner's Instagram that she won but on every other SNS I use there is like 0 hype, 0 mentions, its mostly the finalists mentioning it.... and so it seems like no one else cared that this contest was happening but least there is a Cape of Spirits banner on Webtoon so maybe there will be more aggressive promotions coming soon

So i'd just like to know if maybe I am the only one that felt this whole the contest just went under the radar at a certain point or if maybe I just didn't notice the hype during these past few months?

We participated in the contest (didn't make it obviously), but yeah there wasn't a lot of hype. Some banners if you went to the discover section but otherwise... nothing. Even the people who won the featured contract didn't get moved to featured, they were still in discovered (which is a bit annoying I feel).

So yeah, not a lot of hype- and some people were sore they didn't win. I know I was reading some comics and they suddenly added all their stuff to the webtoons site because of the contest. Most of them didn't read they'd be disqualified because they had already self published their books.

I do know a lot of people seemed to think the contest was rigged somehow, or that the webtoons staff showed heavy favoritism to certain styles of comics (there was a thread somewhere around here about western vs eastern romance).

Glad we have our winner though!

Yeah, Webtoon lack of banner except for a small graphic on top mentioning the contest meant most people didn't know or care. Also it had 6,000 + entrants who all would talk and so the amount of mention was high and bound to drop when only 8 people are left (outside of the 'I didn't make it' post).

The 8 also were behind a smaller banner and rarely mention...then it drops to 4 and I didn't even know when that happen and now the winner got announce. I think for a contest it didn't get much promotion from Webtoon itself (during it's run that is, before the lead up to it it was promote quite a bit).

Another thought. They probably didn't care about promoting it as much past the finial 8 for a simple reason: The only prizes after the finial 8 were announced were cash prizes. Anyone who made it to the finial 8 are going to get featured and a contract. So making it to finial 4, 2, and top winner is mostly cash and bragging rights.

So as far as everyone was concerned, the REAL contest was over after the first round.

Yeah I think after the finalists were announced it just lost a lot of hype. I think contests work best if you just announce all the winners and ranks all at once rather than dragging it out at the end, especially when all 8 finalists could get offered a feature contract.
