I upload my comics using the word "episode" Thought it was equivalent to a chapter, until I saw some threads here like episodes vs chapters, etc... So, what is the difference between the two? And does it matter what I call an update?

Hiya!! Well, generally a chapter of a comic (in manga for example) is anywhere from 17- 25 odd pages and follows cannon. Episodes are generally a bit more short n sweet- and can stand alone or don't have to be cannon- like episodes of "the simpsons" or "Dennis", stuff like that for example. They are fun excerpts to enjoy in an easy-to-binge format. That's how things generally work.
As you've probably noticed, Tapastic counts your uploads as "episodes" in your comic listing in any case, whatever you call them!
In my opinion, no it shouldn't really matter if you label your batches of uploads as "Episodes" "Chapters" or "Acts", as long as you post them numerically and have some semblance of order it should be all good. What matters is that you post and share your work, people will manage to follow along.

Hi Lord. The difference between episode and chapter is a criteria of medium. Chapter (derived from lat. "capitulum") is normally meant as a section of text. As for "Episode" originally can be defined as "an incident or action standing out by itself, but more or less connected with a complete series of events." (yes I quoted that out of wiktionary, but it is quite accurate.) This definition is much more leaning towards the thought of an image (which is why episodes normally are single installments within a series in TV, Netflix or even movies. Yes, all those Marvel movies could be counted as episodes themselves, though no one does that because it'd be confusing they rather use "sequel").

Thus this really is the question of definition since comics basically are somewhere inbetween: They have text AND are visual. So no, like endlessuprising, said: It does or should not matter too much. Maybe it only shows if the creator / author is more thinking of his work as some kind of series or a novel. ^^

I always figured an episode was an update and a chapter was 1 particular story arch. Like our first chapter ended back at Christmas when we finished going through the first 2-3 days of Build-a's life and doing the set up for the rest of the story.

Edited because somehow auto correct made Christmas into schisms

Basically, the chapter is some complete part of a story. An episode in this case is volume of pages, usually less, than a chapter, often presenting some complete scene, but not necessarily.

well most people here don't upload their whole chapters in each episode, so for them (or, us) we divide the chapters up into episodes and either upload them as pages or parts

Personally I just upload a single page per episode. So you can add multiple pages and treat than as chapters if you want, but you don’t have to.
