Discord for your Webcomic

I see several webcomics have a Discord for their own webcomic or have a Discord benefit behind a Patreon tier. I've been weighing over the idea of starting a Discord, maybe to do what others are doing and have it behind a Patreon tier. I've been stuck on the idea of how to do so. I know the technical stuff of setting it up but I'm not too sure what a webcomic discord would be used for.

For the creators out there who has a discord for your webcomic or has it a Patreon benefit, what do you use your discord for?

Mostly for when I want to do requests for my subs or when they want to make cursed drawings of my characters xd

I also want to voicechat with them more but most of them don't seem to want to

my comic discord is mostly just shitposty where people either talk about random things or the comic itself. it doesn’t really serve much of a purpose but it’s nice

I have one, but it's pretty quiet though. It's mostly to talk to the beta readers I have.

I have a Discord that's open to everyone with one channel exclusive to patrons. Most of the time I post real-time updates while I'm working on new episodes, and then there's also early/exclusive access to concept art, random memes and spoilers, and just general life updates and behind-the-scenes rambling. That particular channel might not be super active, but I know the people I'm sharing stuff with are really invested, so it's always a good time lol

I made a Discord server ever since Facebook decided to limit my page (temporary but a week long and I don't even know what causes it to happen)... It's just to inform the readers whether that happens again or way of contact since once the page is restricted/limited, people will barely see your posts.

Thank you for the replies everyone. I thought I would have to do a lot when it came to having a discord like hosting community events and all that stuff. I might just be overthinking it lol.

I put a lot of time and effort into my discord. I'm used to the program and admin everything myself. Even have a personal bot after one of my characters, auto announcements, role assign, special permissions for certain roles and more.

It's there as a community hub surrounding my webcomic, and as a direct line of interaction between me and others interested in my work. It includes special roles for those who are fans, patrons, etc. It also gives access to behind the scenes live streams that can only be accessed via discord.

I'm pretty proud of it.

I've got one but it doesn't have much use as of yet XD It's mainly for just hanging out, sharing new content and live drawing sessions.

I've recently set up a server currently around my live streaming that will be expanded to include more comic stuff once my series launches. (especially considering that most of my streams are just working on said comic xD)

It definitely takes a bit to learn how to run a server effectively, but thankfully i've had the opportunity prior to run a few for MMO guilds and other online game groups before so I have some experience with role set up and stuff (including my favorite for when randos start joining and causing mayhem: server mute role. someone starts acting out, put them in time out with said role basically). I have a close irl friend that is currently just listed as a regular member that I may bump up to being an additional moderator if I end up needing it later... but right now the server is just 4 people so there's not been a need yet

So far since it's so small it's very quiet and laid-back. I post announcements a few times a week, have a conversation here or there, but that's about it. I also have a music bot set up to help me (and anyone else who wants to) listen to music while streaming without having it play on said stream (playing licensed music on stream is a no-no) but that's a more niche and specific application for my server
