Sometimes we realize that one of our characters looks like us, but it's just a coincidence. Other times it's intentional.

Yesterday I realized I look a bit like my OC Mara Mcnozie. I don't have green eyes and purple hair (and her hair is wavy while mine is more ringlet-y) but the complexion combined with slanted eyes, thin eyebrows, round face etc...looks kind of like me, and our hair is about the same length and volume as well

Yes, but only because I made a “self insert” character as a joke. The only thing about her that is similar to me is how she looks, so yeah.
I haven’t drawn her much lol.

Hmm... I don't think so, I try not to make them look like me, but I do keep them being somewhat hispanic so I can feel identified in them!

I have done some of those "Stan lee" cameos in my comics.

Here's one..

I'm one of the guys in the mid panel. Not saying who... lol

I have same face syndrome and its all my face.

I try to deliberately make my characters unlike me, however I had an acquaintance say the dad in this panel resembles me (mostly in expression and mannerism):

I'm curious lol. Do you have any drawings of her anymorel? what's her name?

Oh, so it's an active decision to make them NOT look like you? Sometimes I just do it by accident (like with Mara) because I have SO many characters.

I think this would be virtually impossible for me because I have so many interests, (and a lot of ethnic DNA being multi-ethnic) lol. Every character has at least one or two things in common with me even if they are nothing like me at first (visual) glance.

It's not about ethnicity so much as deliberately choosing models and inspirations that aren't myself. I'm trying to avoid making all my characters look alike and especially having them act alike.

Have you ever read a webcomic where all the characters more or less have the same basic personality? I sure have.

I have blue eyes, and a lot of my characters have blue eyes, but that's because the people I know who are inspiring those characters also have blue eyes, not because I have them! I just find that if I'm not drawing anyone in particular, then I'm likely to just draw myself more-or-less.

Well her name is literally just “Weapon” because she was created by the evil scientist lady to be a super weapon :skull:
I only have one drawing of her but I hate it 🥲 so I’m doodling a new one

The sunglasses are actually a mind control device (stemming from a joke with my friend bc I always wear sunglasses)

I made a series of comics with a chibli version of me.
The comics are 50% true and 50% ficitional.

I never was a waiter and I never poisoned customer,
the true part is that I have misophonia (affected emotionally
by common sounds — usually those made by others,
and usually ones that other people don't pay attention to)

I made some of them with stories that happened to me
when I was walking around with my upright bass and similiar
stories

Ah, but I think if we just take pieces of ourselves, they can help the characters feel more authentic without being redundant. for instance, if you love music, on of your characters has a passion for music, while another has your passion for art. they don't end up being similar, while both are inspired by bits and pieces of yourself that help you write from a place of deep understanding.

But I guess everyone has different methods. most of my characters are inspired by me or my family in at least one way, but I don't think any one has found them too similar yet.

I've never heard of misophonia before. How do you deal with it? do you wear headphones and listen to music so you won't be distracted by external noises?
