You can say I read more comics then creating my own. While I should create more comics for my own I just love reading others. I check up daily for new updates of comics that are on my favorite list but also check up new comics (that's aren't so famous). I skip the comics you need to pay to unlock because it's annoying no matter how good the story might be. I rather support the 'newbies'
im a comic creator, but ive actually managed to read a lot more books lately than comics... my tapas notifications really build up. i used to read a load of print comics every week, too, but havent touched them in months... little scared to attempt catchup now. BUT ive read two discworld books in as many months (thats p slow yh but im crazy busy and havent been reading all year)
i check up on all my tapas comics randomly maybe once a week, and read a scene or two from my book (currently making money by terry pratchett) every night. normally id read a buncha print comics online over the week but right now... hehe... no
Yes I read comics too, even though I'm a creator. When I'm at work, I read comics on my break periods. They aren't usually long enough to draw anything (and my tablet is at home), but plenty of time to catch up on my favorite webcomics.
I read on Tapas and Line Webtoons mostly. Sometimes I go on tumblr or twitter to catch up. I mostly read fantasy romance webcomics, or action adventure comics. Sometimes educational comics.. its pretty mixed I guess.
Not as often as I'd like, but yes, I read webcomics and physical comics. :> I try to check in with the webcomics I follow once a week.
It's important as a creator to take time to read other people's comics; if you're constantly in your own bubble, you'll end up out-of-touch with what's going on in your own community.
As a writer, I need to read when I'm not writing lol My goal is to improve my craft, so I'm always reading something. I'll read novels, articles online, or physical magazines. All reading is good reading since it helps me learn new writing styles. I always make sure to read my fellow writers stories.
I read everyday, but I divide up what I read. For example, I always make time to support other writers on the websites I'm on. I actually write on three websites now, so my time is very divided. I have a blog with 1580 followers, a profile on Writing.com, and now I'm on Tapas. Throughout my week, I make time for each website while also writing my own stuff. Basically, I have no life >.> Or so it feels.
I take breaks to catch up on the comics on here and I also have a printed manga collection I like to binge on occasionally. (Generally when I'm sick) I have a friend who comes to visit once a year and then we binge watch anime.
I'd say a few minutes to an hour of reading comics or horror stories before bed each night. I have had long dry spells in the past but then I read a strip in The Oatmeal where Matt talks about how creating is like breathing: you need to breathe out (create things and publish them) but at some point, you need to breathe in again (read and digest works by other people in order to enrich yourself and recharge). After that I determined to spend more time enjoying other people's work too!! I feel much more sane.
Here's the awesome thing he wrote by the way:
Not as much as I would like. I barely watch TV shows and movies because I don't have the time for even those.
I try very hard to find time to read comics/manga/webcomics, but with a daily update schedule and several webcomics being working on at the same time, some months I just don't have openings. Novels are almost always out of the question. I have shelves of books I still need to read in my room. I've practically not touched what is available on tapastic outside the week of 'this is new I should check it out'
I used to be able to work with TV shows, youtube, audiobooks playing in the background, did it all the time but after I got a seizure several years back I found I could no longer do that. I can no longer focus on the the two things at once anymore.
If you're in the creative writing business, it's somewhat mandatory to look into other people's works for research and knowing the trends.
As well as draw "inspiration" to make their own works. Learning of what to do and what not to do through analysis and judging.
This left me to the mindset that BL will get you instant subs.
- alsways need to get a bit of entertainment and
stealingIdeas for panels and pacing ;D - mostly fantasy or anything that goes against the norm, right now I'm reading Niel Gaimans Sandman (really great comic series) an also a giant bible of Jule Verne storys. I read mangas and comics almost daily (gonna stop since I already started uni :V) books when ever I feel like it
