My significant other made one for me cause I didn't want to asI figured no one would want to join =P
A good amount of people ended up joining to my surprise, it's not insanely active like some other discords I'm in, more quiet but with enough chatting to keep it from being dead (some days more than others)
It's pretty cool actually.
Man some of these replies are tempting me to make one. But I need to know how to make a good server.
Wish could have add some tips here.
You're welcome to join my server and take a look around and see how i set mine up if you like. and feel free to leave when you've seen enough. It started off much smaller with less channels, but people asked for some channels so it sorta grew over time.

This link will expire after today and I will probably not renew it- just an FYI.
I made one specifically for my comic and it got a surprisingly large amount of members joining. (We're close to 700 now )I think it's a good way to communicate as I'm a mainly webtoon comic artist and it was getting frustrating to send simple/nonmajor notifications without having to make a whole webcomic post. It does well and pretty much manages itself at this point (I have mods that look after the group) and people are really nice and have made friends specifically within the discord which is lovely to hear haha. I jokingly call them all my students/children (my comic is an academic/school based comic) and i'm the principal.
I accidentely made a discord server when I was figuring out Discord but I do not use it lol
Ahh, that's neat though I can't join it since I feel weird about it just to enter and then leave it.
I'll just try to get some tips on servers that I am on right now.
But thanks anyways~
Ohhh, that's quite neat~!:3
Getting mods will be a tough one...
I mean it's up to you, but it was happening all yesterday and no one seemed to mind.A lot of people popped in for 5 mins and left. No judgement, and majority of people won't even notice.
I'm a mod in a server that has activity every day, and that's largely due to a small but reliable cluster of particularly active members.
It's for this comic:
Please give it a look, and if you decide you want to come check out the server it's:
i want to make one but i don't know if my comic is ready for it yet
Bumping this thread because I've been thinking about creating a discord for my comic!
How big of an audience did you guys have before making one? My biggest worry is that I don't have enough active readers for a discord server to be useful. I also don't think I can lure any of my friends to be a mod, so I'd have to mod everything myself... Does anyone here manage that by themselves?
I have one! It's not necessarily just related to my comic though. Someone literally asked me if I wanted to chat via Discord and the answer was yes because new friends are fun. (So I'm not sure if that counts...lol) Other than that, I don't have enough readers to do more than that ehehe although I'd love to have one of all my subscribers, how cool would that be?
from last comment i made. i got a little group for my comic, its an ok little place
I think just audience numbers might not be enough to gauge when it's ready to get a server, it might be better to make an announcement on your comic on twitter saying you're looking into it and see how many people express interest. You could have 1k readers but most of them want to lurk and not interact, or you could have 500 and most of them actually do want to talk and speculate. It's different for every work, and as mentioned before, also be careful about making sure it's not going to be overrun by bots (if you don't set it as a Patreon reward) or get too quiet (so your contributions might be needed too).
I feel like it's less about audience size and more about how vocal they are, if that makes sense? Like if you have a bunch of readers that don't comment, they're probably not going to join a Discord server. But a small server can still be effective if the user base is friendly enough.
I'd also say that modding is barely an issue for a small server. Over the course of an entire year, I have kicked one person and banned one bot. It's definitely not a bad idea to have some mods, but if you don't think that many people would join it anyway, it's not super critical.
Those are some really good points! Personally I'd rather have a small but friendly server as opposed to a larger and louder one. A small server would be easier to mod, too. I feel like generally people tend to be nice and considerate on servers but I think it's good to be prepared in case one bad apple pops up.
Thanks for the input!
I've considered it, but I just don't think I'm popular enough for one yet.
I have one, but it's mostly unused. I have some friends I update on it, but it's mostly quiet. A big part of me being on there is because I got rid of Facebook. I wanted to have another/better way of communicating.
I made one for my own comic, Chaotic Nation. It doesn't have a huge community by any stretch, but it's got enough people we can have engaging conversations n' stuff, and it makes it easy to post quickly to my patrons and followers, or for them to ask me questions.
Yes I created one yesterday (so its a bit empty now), I feel like it is amazing place to stay connected with your readers + post sketches and art
