Do you feel like you need your partner/lover to share some of the same interests you do?

When looking for a partner, do you feel like you need someone that shares similar interests as you, so that you can relate to them more?

Also what are you looking for in a partner?

Sure, but it doesn't necessarily need to be visual art. I think it would be a bit odd to not have any shared interests at all.

You don't need to share the same interests, but I think you should have something in common, or at least be open minded enough to take an interest in your partner's interests. For instance, if someone is into going to cons and cosplay, their partner should at least be supportive, and maybe at least willing to go to at least one and give it a shot and the same for maybe the partner's sport. I mean, if you have absolutely nothing in common and not interested shared in at least the same area, what do you talk about and what do you actually bond over?

Absolutely must be at least 1 common interest. In my case its gaming (even if it ends up being only certain types) and sports watching. And those have held up over the course of our about to be 13 year marriage.

Of course, like @HGohwell said, there definitely should be a mutual attempt to try each others interests and be willing enough to be at least supportive of said non-common interests, but if you have none in common, yeah. It's going to lead to some serious wear and tear over the years if not.
